first off this is for a campaign that my local GW is running. i decided what with the new source books coming out.... and the decent amount of models (I believe 90+ goblins) I'd bring out the goblin flavoured pain. first off i'd like to note that the warbands rule sucks for goblins.... I cant even use half of the Goblins I have with these rules, because I only have 3 captains and durburz (i don't like model reping, and I have no plans to buy the finecast command box..... hell im seriously considering dropping the dweller cause hes made of failcast and I haven't got him yet, but hes got some nice rules.... as a side not, there's no named goblins because we're not allowed to use named characters until a certain point in the campaign....

warband 1 -165

goblin captain
shield

9 goblin warriors
5 spears
4 shield

cave troll

warband 2 - 165

goblin captain
shield

9 goblin warriors
5 spears
4 shields

cave troll

warband 3 - 170

goblin captain
bow

11 goblin warriors
11 bows

dweller in the dark

total 500 points

C+C welcome and encouraged..... its my first foray into Lotr, and I realize the whole game will be changed with the warband rule.

PS3 fanboy: jesus owns a ps3.

XBOX 360 fanboy: So does Satan. Thor and Odin own 360s though.
Jesus promises the end of evil, Thor promised the end of Ice Giants.
I DON'T SEE MANY ICE GIANTS AROUND.

Nicely themed warbands, that's the way I'm going with my goblins, melee captain with melee goblins and archery captain with archery goblins, but I would avoid the dweller and the troll and fill up on goblin warbands with shaman captains and a drum team (essential for goblins). I find in a goblin army, the more dice you can throw at your opponent the better, and I'd rather have sixteen goblins with shields/spears, more than enough to take down a good hero provided they don't roll a six, than a troll. The warbands rules kind of suck with goblins though. It drastically reduces the number of goblins you can field :(

Staying on target.....

Aye, gotta agree with gentleman above, say goodbye to the dweller and the trolls, they aren't worth and the points are better spent as an addition to your horde. Also Hereticdave is right about the drum, don't leave home without it. You may want to consider using the named heroes, Groblag while not a great fighter has 3 might points and also with his crown buffs fury to a 5+ making your horde even more resilient. Shamans are a must, in 500pts, you need one, I personally take two (drum defense and offense line). One last thing to consider for goblins is Durburz, 3 might points, fairly survivable with 2 fate and he has a stand fast of 6". Now this may sound harsh but I think anyone who doesn't use him as a goblin player is a bit of a fool. In combination with your drum and when you have broken, with a little luck you can keep most of your offensive line on the board cos if goblins break, they split faster than a fat mans pants....
