So, after getting slaughtered time and time again, I need a new army. With the new books out, now is the perfect time to get one
So, what's a killer 500pt evil list?
So far, I'm thinking morgul knights? They seem pretty neat, but I still dot know the optimum build for them. Should I take a nazgul? The dark marshal or the shadow lord? Or gothmog?
Any pointers would be appreciated.

Staying on target.....

Goblins are now a horrendous force to be reckoned with.

This is my new list:

Durburz
Groblog
Shaman
Captain with shield
Drum
13 goblins with shields
16 goblins with spears
14 goblins with bow

Pretty sure that is about 500, 5+ fury, 9 might points, durburz stand fast, a breaking point of 26 and the drums effects.......

You do not wanna mess with this list lightly

Staying on target.....

Bows defend the drum with one shaman, the rest form a block, heroes hidden till they can reach combat, both shamans use fury buffed by groblog's silly hat. Transfix to be used also to protect the drum, pick flanks off with bowmen and weaken side of blocks too, use mass the envelope flanks and slowly eat down one side. Heroic moves are essential to trapping and getting prime positions, your might points should used for nothing else other than a desperate transfix

Not sure on the uruks and abrakans as I do not have the book but the gundabad goblins have higher strength and defense and courage but fight remains same. Gundabad captain has a mighty str5 and def6 is only 10 pts more than a standard captain, well, well, well worth looking into as an alternate. I just love a good old horde

EDIT: I've come up with another mordor list, which for some reason I REALLY like, it seems quite solid.

Black guard of barad-dur captain: 60
12 x Black guards of barad-dur : 144

warband 2: 184
Mordor orc drummer: 40
12 x black guards of barad-dur: 144

warband 3: 110
Mordor orc shaman: 50
12 x orc trackers: 60

total: 498

the only problem I see is that I have no spearmen to back up the black guard. Does anyone have any ideas?

Your gonna want some spears especially with black guests and their high fight. Change out half a dozen and but in a few spears and a banner orc for rerolls

The angmar list is very brittle, I don't like playing a buffed witchking, I'd rather run burdhur or gulahvar. I would take a shaman over a shade any day at this level and the amount of models you have, rage may just save your bacon. Then you can use the 50pts left to bolster your force with more Orcs. Also two trolls at 500 is too much especially with half your points already heroes so take a troll out and stick in a captain and few more Orcs, the might will be handy. Lastly the trackers need to go, they aren't great as it is and with only six the effect they will have on the battle will be minimal. At 500pts I would take combat only Orcs and quite a few of them also consider a banner

so just replace six of the black guard with spearmen? thats 18 guard and 6 spears, a 3:1 ratio, is there any way I can include more spears? should I sacrifice some trackers for more spears? or get rid of the trackers altogether and just chuck spears in instead?

Depends entirely on what your comfortable with. I'd stick with the bows and downgrade more black guard personally just so I have ranged threat. The other reason is because the battle line you need will only be so long and I can guarentee that it wont be more then 14 models, so I'd whip black guard count right down to 14ish, put in a banner for your rerolls and put in a shaman and as many spear totting Orcs as you can squeeze. Now you have fury to save men, a banner for rerolls, black guard backed up by cheap spears who use your black guards fight value when fighting through them and a decent ranged threat I like that you have drummer too, good choice when you have an all infantry army

whats your thoughts on upgrading the captain to the dark marshal for that 6" banner and courage boost?

Ooooo that's an interesting choice mate, I think it would definitely be worth checking out seen as he is a much better banner due to his defence and will/fate stock and he can handle himself in combat (fight 6, higher than the other ringwraiths) and is an offensive sorcerer to boot!!!

Wish GW would let you playtest rather than being so anal about everything :(

So, Revised list:
Warband 1: 279
Dark marshall on armoured horse - 135
12 x Black guard - 144

Warband 2: 100
Orc drummer - 40
12 x Orc trackers - 60

Warband 3: 122
Orc Shamman - 50
12 x orcs with spears - 72

for a total of 501 points. How does that sound? It might be possible to upgrade two of the spear orcs to black guard for a total of 14 black guard, but I don't know whether that would really improve it.
Your thoughts?

Look's like a pretty solid list now. I would generally have more shield bearers than spears as your shieldsmen will take the brunt of the blows, they may have D7 but there's always the chance of a lucky roll.

Now there are a few things to bear in mind with a list like this. You are an all foot army and that means your weakness will be well-played cavalry. Your trackers no.1 priority is anything on horseback, it needs to die because if it makes it round the back to the Dark Marshall or spears with the charge, consider them dead and then your line will collapse as your surrounded. Do not count on combat support from your trackers, you'll get owned

The next thing you need to realise is that you have very few might points and your opponent should take advantage of this. Play smart, don't present any flanks and don't over extend your troops from your black/spear block, stay in formation or you'll get picked apart one by one.

Point number 3 is how to use those might you actually have. With only 3 might on the field, they must be used at precisely at the right time. Use the black marshall's only for heroic moves, nothing else and only if you can go in for the kill on say a character/banner once you have the upper hand or to reassert your battle line. Your shaman's should primarily be used to get an urgent transfix off to stop your line from collapsing or someone flanking your block. If you find you are playing well and you don't have that problem then you can use it for another heroic move as your shaman should be with your block for fury.

Last but not least for sure is about the DM. Play defense constantly, transfix and compel anything that makes it through and flanks. If your line holds and starts to push back then use those too powers to press the advantage, again timing is crucial.

Ok so that's it for pointers with the list, play sensible and I would like to thing you'd be fine

I only have one problem with your list come to think of it. The new missions mean that you can have your warbands split from each other so rearrange your list like so:

WB1:

Shaman

7 Black Guard
5 Spears

WB2:

Drummer

6 Black Guard
5 spears

WB3:

DM

12 Trackers.

This way you have two blocks should they get split and can still play defensively. Sure they aren't as strong as the 13 Black Guards together but imagine if it was your spear lot out on a limb.. Also the DM with the trackers is fine as he is on horseback so is mobile enough to move straight to the block if needs be and your trackers can back down while whittling down your opponents (if cavalry just run )

Well I hope this helps. If I'm ever across that way, I would be very interested to see what my angmar list would make of this

Personally, I use Isengard, but NOT Saruman.

I take an Uruk Captain with my Uruk warriors with heavy armor. 1/2 with shield, 1/2 with pike.

I also like to mix in some Moria. Especially, combining a cave troll and a goblin captain. Performing a Heroic Combat can make that troll even more destructive!

for a 500 point list i run 2, my dwarfs and angmar, as you want eveil i would suggest my angamr (go figure) i simply just used the undead warriors (same as warriors of the dead i forget the name) with their spirit walk rule and the ability to move 24"!!! you can pick your enemies hardest unit and surround it, and they have spirit grasp as well which make severything harder for the enemy, also shades and werewolves are great, and if you take the tainted or the dwimmerlaik with your troops your own forces arent affect by the shades chill miasma if they are within 12" of the dwimmerlaik or the tainted.

+ having a ring wraith is to awesome

Dwarfs: 3000pts Won: 5 Lost: 7 Draw: 3

LOTR Dwarfs: 100pts Won: 9 Lost: 0 Draw: 0

Dark Eldar: 2500pts Won: 2 Lost: 3 Draw: 7

When I need to build a army I know will destroy just about anything I will face, then I go with either Easterlings and their solid warriors and cavalry. or a Isengard force. Both armies has the capabilty to rip your foe a new one
