Meridia is a small otherwise insignificant double mooned swamp planet in a backwater part of the ultima segmentum.
The planet’s surface is fairly uniform to the point that the five local lords each have a ‘slice’ of planet stretching from pole to pole. In this section, each is a law unto themselves, and in this way they continued for millennia.

Imperial forces first found Meridia in M38, and nearly dismissed it out of sight. Indeed they would have if it weren’t for the blasphemy they found.
Their remoteness and warmongering had lead the five lords to listen to whispers in the darkness, those whispers came from the gods of chaos.
Each lord raised around themselves armies millions strong. These waged war amongst themselves, though one gained the upper hand, alone in not dedicating himself to a single god, but to the pantheon.

This war torn desolate place is what the Imperials discovered. After learning of the chaos threat, the most zealous of the Meridians, the cabal that had located to the moon Mehrunes, were sentenced to exterminatus.
This exterminatus revealed something that had been overlooked. Under the first kilometre of rock was a core of solid adamantium, the largest source known to date. The lords of the planet took this as an opportunity to meet with the Imperials, to try to discuss terms of independence, focussing on trade of the valuable adamantium with the empire.

Unfortunately, the empire wasn’t interested in negotiation. The lords were kept prisoner aboard the Saint of Sabbat, an Oberon class battleship, they were forced to watch as the navy rained fire down upon their planet. The firing continued for days until nothing remained. Then the lords were then for heresy by the inquisition.

The empire took little time in organising a vast mining operation on the moon Mehrunes, using what remains of Meridia as little more than housing for workers and as a garrison site for the vast forces of Imperial Guard stationed there to protect this most valuable resource.

Led by the ancient, once great tactician, Screaming Lord Silon, and eschewing many tanks due to their rapid response requirements, the 9th Meridians is one such force. Their job is little more than to act as a tar pit to slow any invaders until the full might of the 5th, 6th, 10th, and 11th Meridian armoured companies can be brought to bear.

OOC: This is a planned army that I'm probably going to start sometime this summer, as until then I simply won't have the money. However, I'm scanning ebay etc so who knows. Let me know what you think of this story, and any ideas for colour schemes fitting with the planet? Though not DP's, as I'm not a huge fan of non-vehicular camo

Anyone? I'd really appreciate any opinions/tips/comments etc. Likewise, any advice on building an all-infantry force would be great. (I'm considering sentinels and MAYBE Leman Russes - it depends on if I can fit it fluff-wise)

I very much like this...
I'd go with sentinals rather than leman russes since marshes are not good for tanks.
I'd go with Veterans in camo cloaks and whatever special weapons (flamers/heavy flamers?) you deem fit.

Thanks for the feedback, I was purely thinking of Leman Russes purely because I'd like some templates to dish at the enemy.

Fluffwise, I could either just have sentinels and then rely on mortars, or paint them as one of the armoured companies mentioned and purely use them as reserves?

Any other ideas? Whilst I'm only going to play casual, it would be nice to win sometimes.

You could use hellhounds...
Or do you want some heavy armour?
Because that's fairly easy to work into fluff if you really wanted to...

I think I can work round a lack of tanks, though some armour would be useful. How would you work around it fluffwise? As an attachment like I said above or another method?

Probably some kind of modification...
Though it'd make more sense to have vets in chimeras with flamers and use sentinals and artillery for support...

Chimeras are probably okay fluff wise, as they're listed as amphibious in the codex, which is ideal. However I want to steer clear of vehicles, though a squad of flamer toting grenadiers does sound good when carried by chimera

You could go with just vets in camo cloaks to start with then later upgrade them to grenadiers when you have the money/time/inclination for chimeras...
