Hi Guys, I'm hoping to start LoTR soon and want to make a Rivendell army. I'm looking for a bit of fun which can also be quite effective in games. I will mainly be playing my friends but will also come up against other people. How does this list look?

Anyone got any ideas on how to fill the points in? I could have a banner on the Erestor squad to make sure that he can get to use his daggers in combat. I am new to the game by the way so any advice will help me!

I'm not sure why, but you have excluded the best archers in the game!? Any reason why??

I've been told that they're not the best as you can only have 1/3rd of the unit as Archers now and there's not enough firepower in that, but i'm not sure seeing as I'm not to the game. Plus i think that the combat models look much cooler. But I'm not sure, how good are archers in LoTR?

Other than the dunedain and any other rangers with might, I think they only lose out to their galadhrim cousins due to value for money.

Being fight 6 if they get into trouble, and hitting on 3's with elven bows, I can't see them not being the best archers. They do have heavy armour too.

Apparently, though I thought different, 33% of your guys total can have bows, not restricted to 'per warband'.

And think of an example, your archers a third of the army below, so say nine, shoot a cave troll. Math hammer dictates, 6 hit and 2 will wound if you roll a little better than average, they have already nearly earned their points back. Maybe it's just the way I look at things but I would always max out on elven archers. The other two thirds are good enough in a scrap to look after themselves.

Its always been a case of only 33% of your models are allowed bows.
I would drop an eagle and a captain, then spend the points on a nasty hero like elrond of grofindal plus a banner, otherwise powerful enemy heroes are going to make mincepies out of your guys. If you need to drop Erestor as well. If you go for Glorfindal then you'll have both him and erestor in the White Cancel set.
Also get some bows in there, elves have a nasty reputation with a bow for a reason!

I will add some Bows, I would like to keep my Captains but I would be open to dropping Erestor and the eagles, what would you suggest with the 270 points freed up?

Glorfindal and a banner if you can! Without fail. Anything else just use to bulk out the numbers. Youll want armour on glorfindal as well

drop the eagles for Ents, i love ents so much big face pounding tree's also in my eyes are cheap for what they get, s:8 d:8 i beleive.

Not to be a debbie downer but I was under the impression that you can't just take eagles or ents without taking a leader of the wild warriors warbands example treebeard, bilbo or gwaihir

This was my understanding as well. Also, I might take another look at Elladan and Elrohir for heroes...they are pretty awesome

Damn, I'll have to have a look next time i go down my FLGS so i can nab the book while i'm there to make a new list, but thanks for all the help guys
