Been planning Warmachine on and off over the past few years, having started not long after it had originally been released.

Often that that I actually attempted to paint up Warmachine figures as suppose to 40K ones (IG player might ahd something to do with it), now with a new job on the horizon and actually having money in my pocket I've decided to start up Warmachine once more. Couple of games in and I've decided go with Magnus the Traitor and his band of 'Loyalists', I like the theme and its similar to Cygnar in certain ways which good since I've played that faction and Magnus before under the MK.I rules.

Have the Traitor already and ordered his Warjacks today, I've got a couple of weeks to work on just the one mode.

Intend to use a slightly modified version of a paint scheme I tried for my old Cygnar army, mostly green with stuff like shoulder pads, etc painted blue...though for Magnus that'll be a dark-ish blue. Heres an old photo from 5 years ago of a partially painted Hunter Light Warjack in the said scheme.

A chance find on Dakka's trading section meant I was able to get the Warjacks I needed far sooner and cheaper than I would have otherwise done, though it did entail a six hour bus ride...

Anyway, I've had to do a little bit of work which included a repair job on Nomad pictured below.

Had to use paper fasteners to hold the sword on (as you can see) after it had been taken off originally for a conversion, I'll need to clean it up a bit before undercoating and repainting the sword. Will also be looking at painting over section parts in Catachan Green to tie it with the paint scheme I have envisioned.

The three-player match today went well, I managed to pull off a victory in the end.

Here's a narrative battle report I wrote.

~ ~ ~

The Thornwood Forest

Pain flared in his right leg again as he made his way through the forest's undergrowth and across uneven ground, but like always Magnus the Traitor ignored it as he pressed his 'jacks onwards. The undergrowth made for slow going, but the iron constructs weighing in at a fair few tons each simply forged their own paths by simply trampling through bushes and the like. Even though their heartfires were still burning fiercely, their supplies of coal and water were running pitifully low with it only being a few more miles before they would finally stop. Fortunately one of Magnus' supply caches was up ahead hidden amongst the remains of a ruined forest village, one that was probably destroyed long before even Magnus' grandfather was but a babe in arms. He doubt that anyone knew of its existence, hell he'd made certain that even his own lackeys remain unaware of the ruins and so it remained his private domain hidden away from the rest of the wo-...

Something made him halt, something he could barely detect on the very edge of his senses. Cortexes.

That meant warjacks, no more than half a dozen and what he hazard to be a pair of warcasters. This deep in the Thornwood?

Creeping closer he could hear the sounds of battle, a skirmish really between two opposing 'casters and their respective battlegroups of 'jacks. He sensed the familiar Cygnaran 'jacks he'd once commanded before becoming an outcast to his own nation, plus the more beastial and bear-like cortexes of a pair of Khadoran heavies. Given that Khador had captured the Thornwood after overrunning the Cygnaran fort of Northguard he guessed that the Cygnaran 'caster was probably some young whelp who had taken his 'jacks and gone of by himself to seek glory, though Magnus was certain the young fool would just end up becoming worm food. It was unfortunate that their clash took place in the ruined village where his cache and it's much needed supplies were, most unfortunate indeed. However there was a blast of magical energy that toppled the Khadoran Destroyer that seemed strangely familiar to the Traitor, but then he saw the Cygnaran 'caster as they charged the female Khadoran 'caster, who Magnus took to be probably Sorcha, and the flash of ginger hair with the flash of a Caspian battle blade. Stryker!

Rage filled the Traitor's very fibre as memories of that fateful when Stryker had toppled a 'jack onto Magnus and left him with a lame leg and the loss of an arm. Magnus urged his 'jacks to build up extra steam pressure and sent them hurtling towards the ruins and hurried after them as Stryker landed a telling blow against his Khadoran counterpart causing her own sole functioning 'jack, a Juggernaut, to shut down as its master lost conciousness and broke the link that drove it on. Damn. Magnus was hoping the pair would keep each other occupied long for him to land a strike in Stryker's back, especially since two of the three Cygnaran 'jacks were still intact. A shot from the Renegade's obilterator only succeeded in knocking Stryker over and winding him as Magnus' two heavies moved to cover their master. He sent the Nomad charging over to the Ironclad along with his Mangler in support to tie up the Cygnaran heavy whilst he and the Renegade went to deal with the Charger before it drew a bead on him. Two swings of Foeclever completely wrecked the light 'jack so he directed the Renegade over to engage the Ironclad just before the Cygnaran heavy's quake hammer landed a hard blow on the Nomad and knocked it over. In the Ironclad was wrecked by the Mangler and its spiked wrecking ball, leaving Stryker without 'jacks.

"It doesn't have to end like this Magnus, give yourself up and I'll see you don't get hanged for crimes!" Stryker called out after directing a blast of magical energy to ensure Magnus' 'jacks were knocked down and out of action. "You have my word on that!"

"What and spent the rest of my life rotting away on Bloodshore Island? I'd rather die!" Snarled Magnus as he drew all his magic towards him and charged towards his most hated foe lashing out with his mechanikal arm and catching Stryker off-guard, knocking him to the ground before swinging Foeclever down hard. There was a flash of energy as the sword bit into Stryker's power field, blinding Magnus for a moment and making him staggered backwards. When he'd regained his wits Stryker was gone, cresting a rise in the distance as he made for the Dragon's Tongue River and Cygnaran lines to the south. Magnus growled that the man responsible for making him a cripple lived to fight another day, but the trail of blood meant he'd had managed to land a wounding blow. Though in the distance he could hear the shouts of a Khadoran patrol, probably drawn by the sounds of battle, heading his way and he could see Sorcha starting to come round again with her 'jack also waking as it sensed its master once more. Spitting at the wrecks of the Cygnaran 'jacks, Magnus forced his own 'jacks to right themselves and then fled into the forest to try and escape the Khadoran soldiers now swarming the ruined village.

There were other supply caches he could try...

Been a while but I actually got round to repainting the Nomad a few months back, it was only getting a new camera for Christmas that I was able to get a picture of him up.

The black thing on the bottom end of the sword is actually the paper fastener paper fastener used for the repair job..
