Hey there.
So I've been hearing a lot oh hate for adding "40k approved" armies into tournaments. Some of these rulings are on the TO's personal opinions and some are because of popular outcry against such units being used competitively; but why?

I know I'll be getting the internet's heat from this, and that's fine. I'm just curious what makes these things so game breaking; if anything these units allow for a change in tactics or something new to bring out to the scene! I've been looking through all of these units and none seem over powered and those which afre really nasty are rediculously expensive points wise.

The LR achellies? It's got crap for transport capacity and lacks assault ramps, it's also incredibly expensive.
Those mini las blast guns for IG? they are easy to pop and will most likley blow up, they also are short ranged.
The necron Tomb Stalker? It's 205 points and it has no invulnerable save
Cullin? Nowhere near Driago power level.
Spined chaos beast? Spare me..
Dreadclaws? Not fast, incredibly big.

All these units, though bringing some interesting uses into the game, are in my opinion rather balanced, so why does there seem to be an overall majority hating on these?

I'm not amazingly strong on the new IA but I feel that I can give the Land Raider Achillies a shot.

Yes, it is expensive, but if you take one, and then insert a small scout squad etc into it, you only need to park it on an objective and it is pretty much guaranteed to be yours. It's immune to Melta and Lance, so there are only a couple of ways to kill it, a lucky Lascannon (or equivilant) shot or hit it in the face with a Monstrous Creature or similar. You can hit it with a Monstrous Creature, but if you don't kill it, it will die to the Multi-Meltas and the Thunderfire cannon that it has strapped to the front, so this is unreliable at best, especially considering that the Achillies causes a -1 to the damage chart (IIRC). This is again a problem with S9+ weaponary, with S9 you need to hit, then a 6 to pen, and then a 6 to wreck it, again, this is unlikely to hurt it, and when your opponent has it in cover this makes it even harder to shift.

In short, it is a practically unkillable vehicle that you can put a small troops choice inside of and then park on an objective.

My theory is that is has to do with the rarity of the models and relative inaccessibility of the rules that go with them.

They're not part of the normal GW range. You don't see them for sale in your local FLGS. Consequently there is a perception that they are only used by people who have more money or people who are looking to take advantage of others' ignorance of the rules.

I think everyone loves to see FW models on the table, but only when they're representing a codex entry.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
