Subject: confusion over duel fight value

Just starting lotr and i have the mines rulebook and the moria and angmar sourcebook. now i understand that when the fight value is listed as say 4/6+ this is hth and shooting.
however ive noticed that creatures have this dispite not even being able to wield a bow or have a shooting like attack? for instance wargs or giant spiders. am i missing something or is there a reason this value is added?
thanks
pete

I've checked my rulebook and the warg has 3/- meaning it has no shoot value. Unless your looking at the warg rider with a 3/5+ I can't help you much. Same with the spider. Some creatures may have range attacks like trolls as they can throw stones (or chain in the cave troll example)

Its in the moria sourcebook, its most likely a misprint tbh. but it appears for all of tge creatures includibg the warg's and warg chieftain

Oh well I dunno. I checked the large rule book and the Khazad-Dum rulebook (which has quite a lot of Moria stuff too) and the wargs have no shoot value. I'm afraid I don't have the Moria book so I can't help you much, most likely a misprint or something I simply don't know about!

I forget which, but some profiles have a shoot value and some dont. Its the same with WHFB, warriors without bows still have a BS, for example Vampire counts Skeletons.
Its just for completion. Somehow if a Warg would be able to pick up and wield a bow, perhaps in a special scenario, then he would be able to shoot it with a 6+ if your warg says 6+ and he wont be able to shoot it if he has a Fight of - for shooting.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause. |

The reason behind this is the special scenario rule that most do not use or no about. This rule is the picking up of weapons and equipment found on page 72 of the Big Rule Book.
So say you are Boromir (or other bow-less model) and you stumble across a uruk-hai crossbowman's body in-game, you had the option of picking the thing up and shooting it with whatever shoot value you had. (only if both players agreed on using the rule in the first place)
