I'm working on a heavily infantry-focused Blood Angels army - it's themed around a splinter group of the Lamenters that got lost in the Warp and end up roaming all around the galaxy righteously murdering the hell out of things for redemption and the emprah. Lots of yellow armor, checkerboard patterning, battle wear and damage, and face-smashing!
First model WIP: Commander-Chaplain Bruce Willis Shepard Furious McChargingTon haven't-thought-of-a-name-yet, recently promoted to leadership of the strike force after his old captain got killed in an attack that also blew off half his armor (and face). He's armed with an ancient relic axe, because croziuses aren't choppy enough, and a power fist with built-in underslung melta (Reclusiarch with pfist, infernus pistol).
I used Huron Blackheart's torso and axe arm, along with Death Company bits for everything else and heavy green stuffing (especially on the waist join, and the melta mount/tube-feed). I got the idea to use a chainsword engine for the mount off one of Ron's projects at From The Warp - right now I'm just waiting on some washes I ordered from Secret Weapon ( www.secretweaponminiatures.com, also where I got the base from) so I can wash/weather down the yellow plating, and then start doing all the highlights/details/battle damage.

Fully painted up, except for the axe, which I'm thinking of converting into a more legit crozius so he's more readily visually identifiable as a chaplain.
First time I've tried to do paint damage/wear, might not be that great but I think it turned out ok.
I'm pretty proud of the underslug melta conversion and how I got it to look, in the end.

The textured paint look is kind of growing on me, actually. And it's really prominent on sections like the waist and fist because I had to do a ton of touch-ups on the fist, and the waist is very heavily green-stuffed so it's hard to get a completely smooth texture/join. :(
He's going to lead up a squad of 6 Death Company, 5 with power weapons and 1 with another fist - riding in a Stormraven with a DC dread (that I plan on converting up from the Forge World Ironclad with dual chainfists). Lots of opportunity for squad characterization and making every model tell its own story.

Really nice conversion.
Only a very minor comment on the paint job, the parchment of the purity seals looks a bit too white, maybe needs a Devlan Mud wash or something?
Otherwise excellent stuff, can't wait to see more.

I think people will know thats the chaplain, He has black armor and a towel between his legs. I like the axe, Maybe put half a bird on the axe head, but i'd keep the axe. and water down the paints. To get that bright yellow from black use a bunch of browns getting lighter, It will take a little longer but look alot smoother.

Sorry for the long lack of updates! Just started working a month ago, and I've been really busy at the office - barely have time to paint. On the plus side, at least I have enough cash now to make some pretty damn nice purchases for the army-to-be.
For now, here's a shot of the Commander-Chaplain and two of the Death Company.
And a single shot of him in a much more menacing pose.
I changed out his melta-fist for a pointing one after I realized you couldn't take both a pfist and infernus pistol as wargear options. :( And I swapped the axe haft for one from the Sanguinary Guard kit - all in all, I like the way he looks now much more.
(bad picture, I know) My death company are all going to have helmet ornamentation similar to iron haloes - there're a few in the Sang Guard kit, but I really wanted to use a beakie helmet, so I ended up chopping up a servo-skull and splicing some bits together. I really like the way it looks.
I love doing the freehand, too - the check marks on the armor/left shoulder, as well as tally marks/writing on purity seals and other areas. To tie the entire squad together, they all have the same squad marking somewhere on their armor (a red stripe/pad with two diagonal white stripes), as well as my army's strikeforce symbol of a winged heart..
And some models pending paintjobs! From left to right, a jump librarian, another death company guy, and a veteran assault sergeant.
