The new store is now live!
It has been a week of HTML and CSS joy.
You can see the store, here: http://dreamforge-games.com/catalog/
Pre-orders are available as of on March 12th (10% off), the sale and pre-orders will run through St. Patrick’s Day March 17.
I have about 200 Sturmtruppen and 100 Kriegsmarine on hand, so I will begin shipping some or all of the pre-orders on March 20th with the rest to be shipped (hopefully) within ten to fifteen days depending on the volume of orders.
All the best!

Woo! I checked first thing when I got to work as I saw your blog post last night.
I have Order #5 for 10 Kriegsmarine troops and a Command squad for my Secrets of the Third Reich Drop trooper platoon!
Your designs are top notch and I wish you the best of luck in your expansion of the Iron Core universe.
Any idea when information on other factions might become available?

Eh, material elitism is so "Privateer Press of 5 years ago", and no-one liked it back then either.
Remember, you'll be eating your own words if the tin price rises by another 400%.
Nice looking site, and great looking minis though.

If Chaos was right, the "are you man enough for metal" was a joke, a commentary on where the market is. Four or five years ago you could not give resin minis away for all the reasons failcast is experiencing. I have no qualms with making resin minis, they simply cannot be produced in large numbers (here in the US) without the afore mentioned issues of quality. I can have some casted in low volume production that will be quality, but that comes with a price. Look at "most" resin minis $14.00 and up per fig.... thats a tough sell for a mini that is a troop choice rather than a character model.
I am working on finding a source for resin but so far the cost per unit is FAR higher than the metal minis. As oil prices rise, so do resin costs.... so which will look better in a few years? My estimation is that both will suffer from inflation.

Speaking with my caster, he is almost done with the order, I need to see how many have issues and what will need re-casts.

I doubt they will be forthcoming with the information, but try finding out who Mantic and/or Defiance Games are using for their "Restic" ('Plastic-Resin') production. AFAIK, they are basically spincasting resin, which has the advantages of being cheaper than metal in terms of material cost, but having roughly the same rate of production. I think Mantic is using renedra in the UK, but Defiance is using an American based company.

This is fantastic news! Putting money into the piggy bank now...
Where do you first anounce things like this, is it via email / a newsletter, or on your blog?
Awesome about the preorder for the troopers, too, I know a lot of folks were waiting for those to go on sale! How long till you have them "stocked" normally? (Pretty much as soon as the preorder ends, or more of a delay?)

I have been speaking with my spincaster about this. He has been spinning resin for many years now, and still is. The problem is the same with spincasting resin as it is with an open pour:
1) Resin needs to sit in the mold to cure, up to an hour on small parts such as mine. Even with a 40 second pot life resin you would need to leave the mold spinning for about 20-30 min. This costs the service provider time and cycles and they end up charging me for the added time I tie up their equipment.
2) The leaching of chemicals and the pull of silicone from the mold still degrades the mold and you will get far less pulls from each mold than you would with metal, it’s about a 10-1 ratio (10 metal pulls for each resin) on mold degradation.
I'm not saying it can’t be and is not done, but it slows production to a crawl and despite the lower cost of resin vs metal the cost per fig, due to the issues above is equal to or greater than a metal mini.
The companies spinning resin do it for a few reasons. The first is that they may have a larger figure, with more mass that would equal much higher cost in metal. The larger mass also aids in quicker resin cure and a faster cycle of molds. The sprue around the failcast helps them vent and gate, but it also provided more mass to aid the cure. This ends up being wasted material that must be assumed in the cost per mini. The second reason is that it is what is popular due to conversion ease. The last reason is shipping weight is greatly reduced.
I’m not poo-pahing (is that a word) the resin spincast I’m just saying that from a production standpoint it’s not a silver bullet. The cost ends up being the same or higher and the production cycles are slowed to a crawl in comparison to metal.

NoseGoblin, I received my Kriegsmarine order yesterday.
These minis are very nice. Parts appear very clean, and I can't wait to get them together and painted for my SoTR Droptroop army.
Looking forward to what you come up with in the furture!
