It hasn't been widely publicized yet (probably because of the recent crash of Spartan's forums), but Small Flyers are on the way in April. So far, the only place I've seen any indication of this is on The War Store's website but that is not a huge shock since TWS has been the "first to know" about many Spartan releases. Here they are:

Now, the question for all of you is: What do we expect the stats of these models to be? As a corollary, what effect will they have on the game? I have a few ideas of my own, but I'm interested in seeing what the Dakka DW players think...

The updated rules say you "should" both agree to play the same "core" game, be it air, sea or land so that things stay balanced and interesting - I'm assuming because they feel they wouldn't be otherwise. And I can see their point for land and sea - I'd get a sad face if I showed up with my fleet of blazing sun with my squid and saw they brought all-land, and it would severely limit maneouvering options.

There was a person saying their all-air CoA fleet was dominating his opponents, but he kept choosing Britain as his opponent, whose main weapon is...dur...torpedoes. Naturally they'll be at a disadvantage.

The effect I see it having on the game is to at least allow people to switch the kind of tiny fliers they are using in the game, rather than make it chosen when they make the army list. Getting 10 tiny flier fighters to go against the enemy fleet might help out quite a bit. So far tiny flier fighters can't do much, but they may be able to take out some of these new small fliers and allow you to use bigger things to take out other bigger things.

I don't see it as that bad honestly. Surface can't shoot RB1 guns at fliers, but they still get their ackack and they can shoot their guns at things out of RB1. Getting your large flier next to my dreadnought isn't really going to save you - I'll just shoot it with ackack or board the thing. Boarding still works!

I dunno, I guess I don't see a problem with an all-air fleet. Now that raging fire cancels concealment and large and mediums are hit on a 5+ still, I think it will be alright. It also nerfs the damage coming from the concealed targets for a few turns, so I think it balances out.

My only problem is that my primary fleet is FSA, but I hate the flying robot models.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I did at first as well, but they are starting to grow on me. Probably because I just did another playthrough of Fallout 3. Still, I like the massive airships enough to overlook the robots.

My biggest problem is that the John Henries and the others don't have any FEET. Why have legs if you're not going to have FEET!

Also, Britannian airships' propellers are waaaay too small.
