So I have decided to start a Late War Russian Tankovy Battalion, using the V3 Forces Book and would like to see what others think of my list.

I am planning to go completely Plastic Soldier Company for this army (or as close to all if there is something that my army needs that is not available from PSC.

Here is the 2000 pt. list:

Headquarters

Tankovy Batalon HQ- T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 85

Combat Companies

Tankovy Company- 5 T-34 obr 1942 with Cupola + 4 T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 530
Tankovy Company- 5 T-34 obr 1942 with Cupola + 5 T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 585

Weapons Companies

Motostrelkovy Company- 3 Motor Rifle Platoons + Komissar team + 2 Maksim HMG team= 415
Motostrelkovy Mortar Company- 3 82-BM-41 mortars + Observer Rifle team= 75

Divisional Support

Sapper Company- 2 Sapper Platoons=185
Heavy Mortar Company- 120-PM-38 mortar + Observer Rifle team= 110

Company Points: 1985

This entire army will cost me $150.89 from the Warstore ( relatively good for a Russian tank horde ). Please critique my list, and let me know if you think there is any major weaknesses. I only plan on buying anything from BF if it is vital for the army.

How are Motostrelkovy equipped in that book? They're all SMGs in Red Bear.

Your list needs some AAA and some recon. Two mortar platoons seems like overkill drop one and add some recon and AAA.

Check out Forged in Battle or Command Decision for your infantry.

Motostrelkovy companies are still SMG teams, and have the options of adding a Komissar team for +15 points and Maksim HMG teams for +25 points per team (max. of 2 teams) in the forces book.

The Tankovy Batalon in the forces book do not have the options of AA or Recon platoons, and the only things in the army that can have AA MGs are the IS-2s, ISU-122s, and ISU-152s, though I can have air support.

So it looks like the R/MG upgrade option is gone forever then. That's a shame.

Is there any dedicated AA? The Fortress Europe list gives access to obr 1939 3.7cm AA guns, DShK's mounted on Gaz 5 trucks and M17 MGMCs. If they're available I'd go for one of the latter options.

It would be nice to have the option of R/MG teams, but that seems to be only the Strelkovy Company now ( options for then are to add Komissar team, Maksim HMG team, and Replace Rifle/MG teams with SMG teams in one Rifle platoon, and they are the same cost, but can't be used by a Tankovy Batalon)

There is no dedicated AA in any of the Russian lists in the forces book, only AA machineguns on some tanks and tank destroyers (the ones with the options for them being the ones I'm not using) and then there is options for air support, but no AA.

Wow that's harsh, those lists seem to be seriously clipped. No dedicated AA or recon is very limiting.

It is odd that Russia has no AA or Recon chooses, I also noticed apon looking at the other lists that all the British lists in the book lack dedicated AA too.

The German and American lists look fine, but both the British and Russian lists have some odd lists.

A question for you: Do you think I should drop the 2nd mortar platoon for something else? I could drop the Motostrelkovy Mortar Company and, with a little tweaking, decrease the Motostrelkovy Company to 2 Platoons with a Komissar team and add a 2nd Motostrelkovy Company with 2 Platoons.

Would this be a better choice for a tank company? I am used to playing my defensive Infantry Bersaglieri, and use as much artillery as I can get, but I expect it is not as heavily needed in a tank company.
