So I have made some major changes to my plans for my LW Russian Tankovy Batalon using the V3 forces book, mainly adding KV-1s and BM-13 Katyusha to replace the mortars I previously had (also cut down T-34s to 15 from 20).

Here is the new 2000 pt. list:

Headquarters

Tankovy Batalon HQ- T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 85

Combat Companies

Tankovy Company- 2 T-34 obr 1942 with Cupola + 5 T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 490
Tankovy Company- 2 T-34 obr 1942 with Cupola + 5 T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 490

Weapons Companies

Motostrelkovy Company- 2 Motor Rifle Platoons + Komissar team= 255

Divisional Support

Guards Heavy Tank Company- 5 KV-1s= 425
Sapper Company- 1 Sapper Platoons=100
Guards Rocket Mortar Battalion- 4 BM-13 Katyusha= 140

So I was just wanted to know what people thought of this new list, (note: I do not have the options of AA or recon in the V3 forces book list) and I had a few questions:

1. Are the Soviet Heavy Tank KV-1 1/100 ( http://www.thewarstore.com/product69197.html ) made by Zvezda the same KV-1s that were used in the later years of the war, or an earlier model?

2. If an earlier model, are they simmilar enough that I could use them as the later model?

3. Do you think that the KV-1s are worth their cost? They are Fearless Trained and lose the Hen and Chicks rule, but have the same gun as a T-34 and only a little more armor. I would like to know if others think they are worth the extra cost (T-34 (with Cupola)= 57 pts. , KV-1= 85).

To answer the first KV-1 question, Zvevda's model is an early war KV-1, characterised by the welded turret and slightly conical mantlet (note it's described on the box as the 1940 model). If your list is for 1942-43, the KV-1 would be a later model, with a cast (rounded) turret, flatter mantler, heavier armour and other design differences, or (assuming the FoW rules cover it) the KV-1S, which had a smaller turret.

Thanks for the info, the list only says KV-1 and gives it's gun as 76mm F-34 gun (the same as the T-34 obr 1942).

I might still get the Zvevda models, as the only noticable difference between them and the later war variant is the gun, which I can replace with the extra 76mm F-34 guns from my T-34s.
