Ok, so a friend of mine and I got the Moria starter set. We just finished our first little battle and it was a blast! Great game, definitely going to continue. But few questions on where to go from here.

First, is the Moria rulebook the up to date rulebook? I assume so, as Moria is still sold on GW's website and it have the same cover as the main rulebook...

Second, what exactly do the Sourcebooks give you? The little rulebook seems to have all the units in the back, are these outdated? Are the Sourcebooks required?

I like Hobbits, but are all the models metal? If they are that might deter me from getting an army. How are they army wise? They can ally with Ents, yes? How are Ents?

How are Dwarfs? Specifically Rangers?

Thanks for all the help!

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

1) The MoM rulebook was printed a while ago, but still covers the basic rules (special rules are in the sourcebooks). The main thing that isn't in there is army composition (warbands), which is in each sourcebook.

2) The MoM lacks a lot of the newer models from GW (Cave Drake, Dweller in the Dark, The Necromancer, Corsairs, and many more). These were printed in White Dwarf issues and journeybooks, but were a mess to keep track of. Sourcebooks contain all the stats for that particular part of Middle Earth and the rules for each one, plus force composition (warbands).

3) Sourcebooks also give sample scenarios to use.

4) Welcome to the hobby!

As for Hobbits: Yes, they're all metal (excluding some of the 4 main hobbits). It's rumored that new ones will come out with the movie, that will be plastic.

Hobbits are the cheapest unit in game, but hilarious to field (Revenge of the Shire!). The archers are good, but they are all VERY squishy.

Ents will only ally with Elves, especially Wood Elves. They are expensive and rarely taken because they're hard to pay for their worth.

Dwarves have insanely high defense. Personally, I hate fighting them (I have a friend who has a dwarf force). These guys are like rocks that can swing swords. I believe they have a standard defense of 6 or 7. Rangers are good too.
