Subject: [A Song of Ice and Fires] Miniatures Game?

After spending a couple of minutes looking at the Perry Brothers plastic War of the Roses line, I have become convinced that they would be PERFECT for use in a Song of Ice and Fire based wargame.
Has anyone else tried using historical figures/rulesets to stage battles in the Song of Ice and Fire series? If so, what rules do you use? I am tempted get 2 boxes of plastic infantry and 2 boxes of the soon-to-be released plastic Men At Arms box, one box for of each for the King in the North and the King on the Iron Throne. The only problem I can see would be finding models for the characters of the story.
Any thoughts?
_Tim?

There is a miniatures line from Darksword for ASIF: http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/mainwebsite_html/store2GRRM.htm
no ruleset, but War of the Ring would probably work well.

Yeah, I was planning on using my own homebrew rules! They are very good for the kind of massed combat games I would want to do.

Either the Darksword figures, or maybe some All Hail Cesar figures could do it. Post some of the rules if you want, would love to see them. Since the game sounds intresting

I would be inclined to use a historical ruleset as noone is particularly heroic and with the exception of the occasional warg and the promise of game breaking dragons there is little to nothing south of the Wall that involves fantasy elements.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. |

No problem!
Basically, the game system revolves around the statistics of the models-once you learn the about how they work and what they mean, you will be ready to play.
For example, here are the statistics for a Wilding:
Wilding Warband~(10 models, 50 points)
M: CCA: RA: Def: Arm: Hp:
4" 1 1 3 5+ 1
~Special Rules~
Scouts: On their first activation, a Wilding units M value is doubled.
~Weapons~ R: Def mod: Arm mod: Special:
Swords and Axes: CC -1 0 None
Here are the stats, explained fully:
1: The area in parentheses tells you how many models come in a unit & how many points that the unit costs. In this case, a Wilding Warband gets you 10 models for 50 points. The average point size for this game will be in the 350-500 point range, although I am toying with other methods of army building.
2: The M value is simple: for every point of M, the unit can move one inch. So, a Wilding Warband may move 4" in an activation.
3: CCA simply tells you how many six sided dice a unit can roll when attacking in a melee. RA tells how many D6 may be rolled when using a Range weapon.
4: Def is the defense of the model. When a Wilding Warband member is attacked, the attacker needs to score a 3 or more on a D6 to wound the model.
5: Arm is basically the armor save of the model. When a model is hit, the wound is ignored on a D6 roll of 5 or greater (I am considering scrapping this, or only making it available to character models. It feels like it would slow the game down too much if you have to stop to roll for this value whenever a unit is hit).
6: HP is just that: how many hits a model can take before it is eliminated.
7: The Special Rules area simply outlines what special abilities a unit has.
On to the weapons: R is,predictably, the range of the weapon. In this case, the range is CC, or close combat, meaning base-to-base contact is required to attack with the weapon.
Def mod and Arm mod both work in the same way: A Def mod of -1 means that the Def of the figure being attacked counts as one point lower. An Arm mod of +1 means that the Arm of the defending figure counts as one point higher.
Finally, special rules are simple special effects that weapons have.
These are just the raw stats. I need to work on the turn system (I am trying to avoid the I go/you-go mechanic, so I am trying to work in something like Infinities reaction system, only much more streamlined and easy to use). Everything is still pretty rough around the edges at the moment. I am even toying with the idea of a skirmish level game with only 4-8 models a side.
Best,
_Tim?
P.S. What kind of models do you all think would work for Wildings? I would use the excellent metal figures from Darksword, but the cost would make it very expensive to build a unit of 10.
