What is the name of the game do you think is the best RTS with renaissance settings?
What do you all recommend me to find one and try?
i've played the following
- Rise of Nations (not really have renaissance settings BUT. there's numerous units being referrence to troops in the renaissance era
- Empire Earth series (same as RoN)
- Settlers 7: emulates Pike n' Shot combat styles. the focus was a bit more on resource micromanagement, while the warfare is more or less resolved with 'finding the best unit mixes for each of your armies.
- Cossacks and American Conquest series.
- Anno 1707 (it doesn't seem to correctly emulates renaissance warfare. musketeer unit is missing from the unit lists. bah!)
anything else I must try?

Medieval 2 Total War. Sure theress alot of sword and spear stuff at the start, but eventually you get pikemen, muskiteers, cannons and what not.

Errr... I'm not too sure but if you're into 18th century warfare then Empire: Total war and Napoleon: Total war might be worth a crack.

I think Medieval 2: Total War is the only that hits the Renaissance period.

Age of Empires 3 starts at the end of Renaissance. I don't know what the expansions are but I believe one was about indians and the third about japanese.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

1st Expansion was AoE3: War Chiefs. Natives became playable faction.
2nd Expansion was AoE3: Asian Dynasties. and it is the expansion you're talking about.
yep AoE3 starts at renaissance, the end date was dragged onto 1860s (Sepoy mutinies, and Post Civilwar westward expansions). but several times it is historically inaccurate.
1. Pikemen no longer a main fighting forces as of 7-Years war.
2. So does Landsknecht.
3. Several European units don't seem to appear in North America at all! (Uhlans, Cuirassiers)
4. one German unit. Needle gunner, doesn't use muzzleloading rifle. he uses breach loading firearms instead.
can anyone think of any other names of RTS games with renaissance seettings. with or without fantasy elements.
please.

If you are willing to step away from a purely RTS play style you can check if there are any mods for
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount%26Blade:_Warband
that tickle your fancy - it's a mix of rpg/ strategy in the single player game, but it is a ton of fun for the price point and the modding community is quite robust.
http://www.amazon.com/Musket-Pike-Renaissance-Windows/dp/B001URCGJ0
which is turn based and not too graphically impressive, but the right time period.

One of Empire's biggest crimes is modelling itself on The Patriot from the get-go... you're dumped straight into late-18th century style warfare... Despite the game starting in 1700, you'd have no idea that it's the time of Marlborough and Louis XIV; you just expect Cornwallis or Napoleon to show up any minute instead. Play the Cossacks (pre-Napoleon) games. In my opinion isometric games never age so they're still perfectly valid.
