Hey guys,

I was wondering what the applicability of this boxset for an Empire army was; do you HAVE to build a number of men as spearmen, or are there enough weapon options to forsake them altogether?

The kits only come with a total of 24 ranged weapons according to warlord games breakdown of the kit. However they also mention a command sprue as well as sword arms and bucklers.

However there is nothing stopping you using different weapons or amrs from other kits so no you dont HAVE to build them all as spearmen. An idea might be for you to get hold of the War of the Roses boxset as well which come with enough polearms (halberds in the armybook) to replace the spears on the spearmen, they do say on the description that the two kits are interchangable. You will end up with spare models but A: will still probably be cheaper then buying the GW equivalents.
B: you can always trade them on and get a bit of money back.
Hope this helps!

I know little of the Empire other than that you want lots of Halberds and that guns apparently beat bows... so I take it that your suggestion amounts to 'buy Mercenaries for the guns and War of the Roses for the Polearms'? :p I do actually like both kits, mind.

I also found these to help with making a non-GW army:

The fireforge knights and the bow/bill box set are a great way to get a jump on a bretonnian army. If you want your knights to look more empire-ish I'd give the new perry box set a look.
Mounted men at arms 1450-1500 would make great inner circle/reiksguard knights

I would definetly second the Perrys kit When I have some money I might be tempted to indulge myself in a set

Maybe it's personal preference on my part, but I think that Mounted Sergeants look far too 'early' for use with Empire.

However, a google search has led me to the Mounted Men at Arms...
