But is it really a good idea? Lately I havnt really been into console games, I find myself wanting/missing playing a handheld while the wife watched Glee or something instead. So Im seriously considering trading my PS3 for a 3DS. Is it a good idea though? I own both a Wii and a 360, and ever since buying the 360, Ive found that the controller is just SOOO much better then the PS3 (IMO of course, dont mean to start a flame war over the 2) So Ill still have the 360 for "hardcore" games, and I wont ever get rid of my Wii, but I havnt really spent any time on my PS3 in many months.

So does this seem like a good idea? I want some options weighed here.

I'd keep the PS3 if i were you...

3ds are good IMO. but im not sure a ps3 for one is woth it, i mean its your choice. if i wher you i would get rid of the Wii.but thats just me.

The problem is when people try to have serious games on them...

My brother was saying the same thing earlier KC, about the pads I mean. He has both and he is hoping if they announce the PS4 this year, they change the 'damned' pads, his words not mine.
He says if a game is on both consoles atm, he'll get the 360 one just because of the pad.

As to the trade, depends on what 3DS games you are seeing that will grab your attention. I have a DSi, and apart from the rare go with Pokemon, I barely touch it. If the TV is occupied and i want a game, I'll pop on the PC and play a MMO or model/Paint something wargamming related.

Not sure what it is, but few of the handheld games stand out to me. In fact I plan on giving it to my eldest later in the year with a copy of Pokemon Gold.

So yeah I advise you look into the games first, see if there are enough out there to catch your interest.

I personally wouldn't just look toward a 3DS. I would also keep an eye on the PSVita, all I have heard is good things (other than the price in games). Heck even the Gadget show said it was the best handheld currently out and these guys usually tell you straight up what they think.

well, a hand held is alway good to have for a long ride. admitedly nintendo never have a good opening line up for new consoles but if memory serves me things like metal gear soled and rayman origens are comeing out on the 3ds,plus thairs the ocarine of time remake. nuf said. and yes serious games on the Wii are always bad.

Get a PSvita.

A lot of good games for the 3ds.

The Zelda/Star Fox/Tales of the Abyss remakes.

Super Mario 3D Land

Mario Kart 7

Kid Icarus.

Luigi's Mansion 2 and Paper Mario 3D(in august)

Super Smash Bros(whenever that comes out. Project Sora[the guys that made the new Kid Icarus] are working on it for the WII U and 3ds)

And there have been rumors about the new fire Emblem actually leaving Japan(making it like the 5th one out of 12 we can play in the states without a ROM).


Those are just the big ones I'm looking forward to (or already own and enjoy)

Almost all the reviewers complain about how it's uncomfortable to play. People just need to learn how to hold handheld consoles.

I think the fact it comes with a periphery just to hold it is a good sign of why they were complaining...

Well IVe got an add out in Craigslist for a fair even trade, so we shall see what I get. Im probably going to just sell it off, and then go the route of purchasing a 3DS. Ive looked at the games plenty lately, and there are a small handfull that already have my attention something fierce, so I know Ill be happy with the content, not to mention the online store is ALWAYS adding new games, so I wont get bored of it anytime soon thats for sure.

Not going to get rid of my Wii, its a blast to play, AND Ive got a gak load of games for it, so many that Ill never be able to get a reasonable price out of it, so Ill have that until it explodes Im sure.

Morathi's Darkest Sin - Believe your brother I dunno what it is, as Ive been a playstation fan/owner since the PS1, but once you get used to the 360 controller, its just SO much better as far as design and comfort goes. Not to mention the joysticks are by far more responsive. When I first got our 360, I constantly would over shoot or over steer, the PS3 sticks are just sloppy IMO.

Agree about the 360 controller: it's my favorite too but trading a PS3 for a 3DS!? Can't recommend that, do you have another blu-ray player?

Dont need a bluray player at all. And you guys seem to be missing the "fair trade up" Im talking about. Fair trade is fair trade, not a strait up trade

Having all 3 seems pointless, stick with the 360 and wii (for IIRC your young'ins) and bin the ps3.

3ds doesnt have a big choice of exclusve titles at the moment but that doesnt stop you playing through the ds' amazing line up while you wait.

Why don't you just buy a Xbox controller converter? I own a PS3 and the controller is horrible, so I bought a giotech controller like a xbox one but more comfy IMO.

I don't rate 3DS highly at all, it's anoying to the eyes and doesn't add that much.

Yea I got rid of the ol PS3 the other day and put a preorder on the purple 3ds coming out on the 20th. So I still have the 360 and the Wii. And the Wii DOES have titles for it that are aimed at older players. But agree, the kids play the Wii more then I do, though admittedly I dont play video games as much as I used to. Thats another reason Im wanting the 3DS, so I dont have to be assed to turn everything on and adjust my chair and and all that jazz, Ill just have it sitting on my table.

Just as a tid bit, I dont EVER take advice for anything Nintendo games on DAKKA. This place is so full of XBOX/PS3 fanbois its sickening

No, I once had a thread on good Wii games, and I got sick of alerting MODs to the continuous stream of hate.

Well, nintendo is crap after all. xD

But to each their own. I think the big problem is more a case of the gamers here being more into the "hardcore" games (me included) and look down on anything approaching casual games.

Fun tip, the movement sensors in your basic PS3 controller are better than those of the Wii's.
The Wii is the least played console.
Nintendo's good stuff was the early things, they can't compete now.

My point was, a console, that's still a half year away from release, will be inferior to a near 2 year old PC, and my PC wasn't even the absolute top of the line.
