I have been tossing around whether or not to take Denethor as a regular in my Minas Tirith force.
He has 2 disadvantages:
-Broken Mind
-No Might or Fate
-Now, his courage of 5 totally which makes up for his Broken Mind, as he is capable of bypassing it more often than not.
-Is Broken Mind when failed, only controlled by Evil Player each time he fails it? So he would be controlled by the evil player until Denethor passes again?
-He has a great Fight value, good strength, good defense, and good wounds and attacks. All this while being 30 points.
-His role would probably be that of a suicide runner. Charge in and do as much damage until he dies. He would go alone or with some high defense companions inorder to ensure he doesn't kill you if he breaks.
Has anyone used Denethor effectively, let alone used him period?

He's a very tricky subject, he's worth it cos of his fight and the rest you said, don't worry about broken mind you have will too. Use him but don't expect anything is the way to go, make him kill troops only, he could cash you in a broken enemy if used well, he plays a little like eowyn, troop killer but enemy heroes will demolish him

Hmm..Ok thanks for the input. I will definitely try him out in my force.
I was thinking of modelling him as Berethor from LotR:Third Age because Berethor had somewhat of a broken mind too. (Being a pawn of Salruman and all)

A supporting spear would go a long way too, making 3 fight 5 atks.

Dont bother with him. Spend the points on more men, and take a better hero like Boromir instead. Or a regular captain, works much better

'Har har, will be a while until people understand that I use units because of their unpopularity.
I was thinking of accompanying him with 4 Guardians of the fountain court.

You could say that about heroes a lot mightier than denethor trond, and also I did say to kill troops, I.e. One on ones with Orcs, he will excel at that help him towards that all important breaking point. Throwing trolls at Eomer will flatten him easy but is he rubbish? No. Is Denethor good? Not exactly. Will he dish it out to the bog standard fella, yes. thats all he needs

Maybe, but he is still next to useless in my opinion still. I never take heros that will struggel against anything tougher than a rank & file trooper. The exception is captains, who has okay statlines and offers a usefull leader.

And that fall upon me!
Denethor does seem like a troop killer. Cave trolls are not troops!

So you only take a bunch of Boromirs?

No that is not an option Iam sure you are aware of. But yes I never field characthers that are not worth their points. Hence I always bring Amdur Master Of Blades and the rewuierd amount of Captains for my Easterlings. And Dragon Knigth for my kataprakts

OW! I keep stubbing my eyes on spelling mistakes!
I see how it is for you, let down the poor guys because they seem wimpy. I bet you were one of those kids that always chose the fat-kid/nerd last for sport-teams! Forgive me if you actually were, I try not to discriminate.
Aaah yes, Easterlings... My first and favorite army before everyone used them. Waaay too popular now.
You see, I use units because they are under-used or unpopular compared to other options. I make these "lame units" win me games, then they become mainstream and I move to the next unit.
(Amdur, Lord of Blades is a very cool model and dude, I have to admit.)

Spelling mistakes? You do realise that I am the uncrowend king of bad gramar here on Dakka rigth?
Anyhow oh totaly. I always choose the ltub of lards last When I attended PE that is .
But yea I see your point, but never choose emo heros when I could choose the most manly heros there is for my army. And I also happen to be quite the fan of the mentioned man myself, I love his moddel. Althou I long for a plastic moddel of him, silly finecast is far too fragile.

I have witnessed a Finecast Tau Ethereal that bounces like a ball without the plaque weighing it down!
Finecast is too fiddly and bendy. Not solid and cheap like plastic.
