Its worth it, people hate on it because it doesn't do justice to the first game, BUT in its own the game is not bad, it's a good game, just not as good as it should have been. Also the templars and the dalish elves they suck.

id buy it for 20 bucks. I bought it for full for no regrets

the characters are awesome , the story is neat but the environments are repetitive (visiting the same room 3x in 3 different occasions)

but i never played the original Dragon Age so i dont have the goggles to keep me from enjoying it.

Hey, I just met you,
and this is crazy,
but I'm a demon,
possess you, maybe?

After the previews and hearing of the new "features", I've put my plans to buy the sequel to the awesome Dragon Age: Origins on ice. However, when DA2 became a budget title, I've purchased it. And for $20, it was a good buy. Much like Yori said, it isn't as good as the first one, but still a nice game all by itself. There are some stupid things (stuff like recycled environments, exaggerated "cartoonish" combat FX, exploding enemies, abilities can no longer be queued) and the story is notably more railroaded than in DA:O or ME3, but the writing and the plot are still nice. The beautifully done and very individualistic characters - especially Varric and Isabela - are the game's true saving grace and will keep you entertained. Plus, whilst this is very much a matter of personal preference and some controversy amongst gamers, I found the voiced protagonist to be an actual improvement.

I'll keep ranting on how good DA2 could have been compared to DA:O - but at the same time, I'll recommend it anyways. It's not as good as Origins, but good enough to be enjoyable.

PS: Yori is a mage sympathizer! Burn him!

I liked DA2 a lot better than the first. Combat was more fun, graphics are great, and I like how my character actually talks instead of standing around like a deaf mute with a blank stare 24/7

I bought it and played it, It was a fun game. But if you are going into it excepting it to be like DA:O you will be disappointed.

It was the test bed for Mass Effect 3, but everyone pretty much gets the same 2 endings. Better than only 3 I suppose.

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Enjoy tentacle-rape, Kirk, we know Sulu will." -Terminus

"This great fortress was a gift to the Blood Ravens from the legendary Imperial Fists. When asked about it Chapter Master Pugh was reported to say: "THEY TOOK WHAT!?""

Its not as good as DA:O, but - on its own - its really not that bad of a game.

You'll have a lot of fun, and I still think it was worth the $50 I payed for it on release.

Note - do ALL THE SIDE QUESTS. You can easily miss 2 or 3 companions just by not doing side quests.

I'd buy it, I regret having purchased it as full price, but for 20 USD its worth it. The game is reasonably fun, and the story is alright, not great, but alright.

Pretty much this.

Except my main complaint is the lack of creativity in the levels "o cool a large map.... great its mostly blocked off by doors" 2 hours later on a different quest "hey i know this place.... OK WHAT THE HELL THAT DOOR WAS NOT THERE BEFORE!"

And that dwarf companion (cant remember his name for the life of me) has THE best quest in the whole game when your forced to only use him for a good half hour, that quest made me have a forced save file just so i could feel badass and laugh maniacally.

WAAAHG!!! until further notice

You mean that level where he kills loads of dudes by himself?
Yeah, that level was epic, and the ending was great xD.
Its one of the reasons why I like Varric.

A very fun kind of person? You can choose an option to hide the adult rated mods when you search in the nexus.

I've been aware of this since 2004 when I first started getting mods for Morrowind. Ever since Oblivion was released it has become exponentially more disturbing with every passing year.

In a way, it's a mirror of society - the true society, the one behind these masks and veils we put on every day. Anonymity is freedom, for good or for worse. Then again, I do believe these things are just a symptom, not the cause.

As a culture, we are still extremely repressed. I'm not sure I want to know how civilization will look like in a hundred years, but it would be an interesting comparison.

Still not as bad as the worst stuff made for Oblivion...yet. It is only a matter of time.

Spoiler:
Nude female torso with head and limbs severed, tentacles running up through her genitals and out through a gaping wound in the stomach has nothing to do with repression. Who ever made that is simply a sick son of a bitch.

Yeah, but where does that come from? Still, I think (hope) this is the exception of the rule.

Okay, I'll admit it, on some level I actually find this funny. On some level.

The first, gruesome one, is a mod for Oblivion. I stumbled onto it on a somethingawful thread about how horrible the Nexus is. I hate to say it, but I'm not really 'disturbed' by these mods. I've seen way too much messed up stuff IRL and on the internet to be surprised, but I am still disgusted that people actually spend time to turn Bethesda games into Rule 34 orgies.

Good god, I don't know if I can stand the control system, camera, or combat. I don't remember DA: Origins being this fething annoying. It's like NWN2 all over again, fighting the camera instead of the mobs.

DA2 worth 20 bucks? Sure, fine, I guess. There must be something to a game that pissed me off so much. Not since DA:O have I been so utterly conflicted about a game ... but while I eventually mellowed out on DA:O's foibles and got sweet on the setting, my attitude toward DA2 has not softened at all. In fact, I've only come to despise it more over time. I'll put it this way: why anyone was surprised at BioWare's terrible storytelling in ME3 is totally beyond me considering that DA2 had been on the market for nearly a year before. DA2's writer, to give him the benefit of the doubt, is a hall-of-fame troll. If you had ever labored under the misconception that RPGs are a synthesis of gameplay and storytelling, DA2 will quickly (literally, it's quite short) bring you back to your senses.

That said, combat is much less clunky. The abilities are okay (nothing to motivate replay, however). The characters, the main show in any BioWare game, are lackluster but even so they're better than the cavalcade of boring nobodies you were trapped with in DA:O. Thing is, I was really sold on DA2 as I played -- even the utterly stupid mid-game boss fight and bizarre second act closer didn't put me off. But the total inability to meaningfully affect the outcome of the story at any level whatsoever was unforgivable. A mediocre story delivered in a mediocre way ought to at least give the player some freedom. If I'm just going to play through someone's script, it'd better damn well be a good script -- e.g., Dreamfall. In DA2, your hands are tied. That's not a great quality in any RPG.
