So I noticed that Rifle/MG team bases are not modeled consistently. One team is modeled with miniatures all armed with rifles, and one team is modeled with miniatures with rifles except for a single MG.
If this is the case, how do you tell your "Rifle" teams from the non-MG "Rifle/MG" teams.... Am I missing something here - two different bases / units which are modeled the exact same can have two have different stats?

What do you do to tell them apart? Do people follow the suggested modeling, or do you often see one MG on each Rifle/MG team?

Thanks - Mez

Short answer, you don't need to.

For game purposes, the R/MG teams are all identical. You don't have to keep track of rifles or machine guns as they all have the same rate of fire.

If a unit has one MG on each stand then that unit is typically rated "MG" for game purposes.

You will find that most players aren't going to bust your nads over what the indvidual models on the bases are carrying as long as everyone knows "those guys are MG, those are R/MG, and those poor schucks back there are just R".

To tell individual units apart, I paint a different colored stripe on the edge of the base. That way when "green" takes a wound, I know that I need to pick up a base with "green" on it even though it might be mixed in with "brown".

Most players I know do this as it can be tough to keep track of what base belongs to what unit when things get mixed up on the board.

Thats a good idea Shotgun on the stripe painting thing. I am new to the game as well and will take that advice.

I feel your pain on the Infantry stand issue. With me playing American PAras,I have a issue with the 30. cal being included in the squad and all that i get is a meger 1 extra attack for it.But if i use them as a weapons platoon they get 5 attacks each. The only solution we could come with was that the stands attacks account for the BAR rifle and Tommy gun that the Squad commmander has.So we drop the 30 from them and use it as a support weapon.
My Germans on the other hand are kinda more vanilla,They do not have a lite mg as a support choice so we had to included it in the squad.
It is all a bit confusing for the new player and i hate to say it sometimes for us veterans too. Here is a another example of the GErmans,i have a bad habit of bouncing my GErmans from SS and HEer since the are still wainting to be Painted. The Schwimwagen Scout teams. Here is what i did for them. The SS are armed with SMG and a Faust,The HEer are armed with Assult rifles and HQ with a Faust. So i mixed the stands with the Sturm wich i put one on and therest were SMG and a Faust,Some of the stands do not have a Faust mounted on them because i put a weapons crate on the vehicles that contains the Fausts.Well to cut this short yes it is all confusing maybe i should have went with magnetized bases and called me the Tin NAZI!

Another option, if you don't have enugh and desire to do so, is to take some other characters and model simple guns. You can replace or add on some troops in a walking fire format. Toothpicks and tubing are you friend.

It can get really bad for lists like Finns where you can have SMG units, R/MG units, and R units.

But I think there are like maybe 7-8 infantry poses total?

I think it would take 3-4 blisters of infantry to kit out a complete full SMG unit, and frankly that is just cost prohibitive. It's also lethal for a married man to contemplate such an endeavor.

So when I field them, I tell my opponent, "This unit is SMG." and he says "okay" and its all good.
