I've got a pretty solid idea of whats competitive at 500pts but i'm looking to find out what highly competitive Blood Angels lists look like at 750 and 1000pts. Are there Tournament lists that get rolled out every time to take on all comers?

Any help would be great, thanks!

its hard to build lists that are competitive at 500/750/1k mainly due to very few tournaments that run at that lvl. few codeci can compete at that lvl and the best way to find out is to play it yourself. but if we had a general idea of the direction you would like to go i wouldnt mind giving you a few ideas

Thanks for the reply, dude. I see how that would be a problem, here is a little background:

I'm not much of a gamer so i've decided to build a competitive force for 40k and go out and finally learn how to play properly with regular games. I've already bought 500pts of marines using the BA codex but i'm going to have some stuff left over and i'm wondering if it'll fit into bigger lists in the future. I did a lot of research into the 500points and with a lot of help i've settled on this list which i am very happy with:
Reclusiarch + Infernus Pistol = 145pts
5 Assault Marines + Infernus Pistol = 115pts
Razorback = 20pts
5 Assault Marines = 100pts
Razorback = 20pts
Predator + Heavy Bolter Sponsons = 100pts
Total = 500pts

The important thing is, if that force doesn't competitively fit into higher points values then i'd rather not try and shoehorn them in. Thanks for any help you can give me.

What you've thought of for 500 points is fine, just switch Reclusiarch for Librarian and take shield of sanguinus. Spare points take a Priest, ditch the infernus pistol to pay for it and take meltagun instead.

I've come close to doing that a few times but the Reclusiarch works with the fluff of my DIY army which means i don't need to sell my soul completely to competitive list building.

What is the theme of your home brew chapter? Do you have a little background on your fluff? Looks like you're leaning towards a mech list, hard to tell at this low a point cost though.

To all of the service members, Active Duty, Reservist, National Guard, Retired, Medically Discharged, Veteran, Disabled Veteran, etc, thank you for your service.

Thank You! Ugh... the first advice, so boring... but that is what you're asking for with you're title.

However, the most competitive list is going to be one that you're very practiced with, and perhaps even can take people by surprise...

Don't think i'd quite woken up at the time of writing that.

Those are great questions! I'm not overly tethered by my fluff and i won't get into it too deeply but i'm basically leaning towards Chaplains and similar buffing characters like Sanguinary Priests. As a force they lean towards assault because they are so zealous but i wouldn't worry about taking ranged troops like devastators.
As for mech, i looked into competitive 500pts lists in extreme detail(for me) and that format kept coming up strongest. Those Heavy Bolters really sold it.

Not at all, Papa Tides' heart must have sank through the floor when he read the subject of the thread. I'm not a complete wet blanket but i want to learn to play with something that'll weather whatever is thrown at it. The next addition or an army with a crazy new codex could put a wobbly list on it's backside and i don't like to change a force's composition once it's built.
I think you make a good point too Tides, if i learn to play it well the list will come into it's own and throwing in a curve ball like a Furioso could be fun.

I'll go away and contemplate my options and come back with some ideas for you guys to muse over.

I'm back!

Yeh, the more i look over my options and read the codex the less i want to add to my 500pts. Maybe one i've get to grips with playing them this way i'll add more but not any time soon.

I guess this thread is kind of pointless now. Thanks anyway guys!

I love my BA. So many different ways I can build them. I like using a mix of mechanized and jumpers, with a good variety of vehicles. I'm a competitive player, but one of the things I really like about BA is the variety availablie to me.

I think that's why i'm so lost, 500pts was quite easy because it really limits your options for competitive builds but above that their are so many possibilities. Could you show me an example or two of what your more competitive 1000pt army lists look like?

I'm going to give my BA's a try for the first time on saturday in a double tourny. You get 1k and do whatever with it. I've paired with a DE player (we are having low turnouts during this time of the year so thats who I'm with) though I think i'm still kind of the anti-armor option of the force. I've condenced everything into pretty much one super death star and it'll be interesting to see how it works

Librarian 100

Assault Squad x 10
2x meltas
Power Weapon

Assault Squad (no packs) x 10
2x meltas
Power Fist
Storm Shield

Stormraven
Locator Beacon

Furioso Dreadnought
-extra armor

Sanguinary Priest
Power Weapon

Of course I'm running my BA's as Star Phantom's and once I get some decals done by a friend I'll really start cranking them out (and even three Dev squads per the fluff) though for my intial list foray, I'm going to try this. I think if I was standing alone, I'd drop the Dreadnought for another assault squad; I'm not into the whole Razorback spam stuff (and don't own any for this 40k force) but those would probably go a long way to brining some firepower into this points bracket. I've also got the Power Fist and storm shield there to try and protect the Librarian and/or Sanguinary Priest. Anyway, hope it helps!

You just need to combine mobility, scoring, assault and fire support to have a fun, well-rounded and competitive list. The 1k event I won with them I used Mephiston as well, but that would probably count as selling your soul.

Okay, sample 1k lists:

Librarian with Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius, Jump Pack: 125
Sang Priest with Lightning Claw: 65
10 Assault Marines, 2x meltagun, Power Fist: 235
5 Assault Marines, meltagun, in Razorback with Lascannon, Plasmaguns, Dozer Blade: 170
5 Assault Marines, flamer, in Razorback with Lascannon, Plasmaguns, Dozer Blade: 165
Predator with Autocannon, Las Sponsons, Dozer: 140
2x Attack Bikes with Multimeltas.

The Librarian joins the jumper squad, and vehicles in the open stay mostly within 6" of him for the 5+ cover. The squad makes sure to keep at least one model within 6" of the priest for FNP.

The Priest rides with one of the Razor squads. He's mostly there to led radius support, but can get out with his squad and join the assault if needed.

You could also run a half-size Stormraven assault list. In the Adepticon team tournament this year my 1k was:

Reclusiarch: 130
Furioso with Blood Talons: 125
7 Death Company, Thunder Hammer, Power Fist: 195
5 Assault Marines, meltagun, in Razorback with Lascannon, Plasmaguns, Dozer Blade: 170
5 Assault Marines, flamer, in Razorback with Lascannon, Plasmaguns, Dozer Blade: 165
Stormraven with TL Assault Cannon, TL Multimelta, Extra Armor: 215

A no-vehicle list can also be quite good.

Librarian with Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius, Jump Pack: 125
Sang Priest with Lightning Claw, Jump Pack: 90
Sang Priest: 50
10 Assault Marines, 2x meltagun, Power Fist: 235
10 Assault Marines, 2x flamer, Power Fist: 225
5 Devastators, 3 Missiles, 1 Lascannon: 145
5 Devastators, 4 Missiles: 130

Adepticon 2015: Team Tourney Best Imperial Team- Team Ironguts, Adepticon 2014: Team Tourney 6th/120, Best Imperial Team- Cold Steel Mercs 2, 40k Championship Qualifier ~25/226

Thanks guys, there are a few bits that stand out for me with these lists.

Firstly, i hear BA Dreads are amazing so that seems like a great addition. I imagine in a drop pod or Stormraven it could really throw a game in your favour.

Also, Meltagun over Infernus is interesting. I think the pistol is the better option at low points but up at 1000pts maybe i should look at Meltas. Then again, if i'm looking into Razorspam then Infernus probably takes the edge again due to the small units.

The Stormraven is interesting, i'd love to stick Astorath and some Death Company in there, maybe with a Death Company Dread to add to the pain. Very expensive though, i don't think i could fit that in to anything less than 1500pts, 2000pts sensibly.

Oh and i love Devastator Missile Launcher Squads in Razors.
