So I was putting together the list of models I needed to order from the flames of war online store when I noticed that the Box set of an US Para company is $65, for 2 platoons and 5 bazookas. An individual US para platoon is $23 and has one bazooka. You can also buy 10 us para bazookas for $12.50.

Thus really annoyed me, for isn't the whole point of a box set to get the minis in bulk for a discount? For $58.50 I can get the two platoon plus 7 extra bazookas.

Anyone know why they are doing this? It seems a very GW thing to do.

It is actually two platoons, bazookas AND Platoon Command, 2iC sections + two mortar sections. It is not very much on the cheap side, since HQ usually are around 6-8 GBP, same for mortars, so if You need the mortars then there is some saving, otherwise You just everything in one box..

Edited - You actually get the mortars with Platoon box, so apparently it is almost the same thatn buying stuff separately.

Right even then its $63.50 for everything the Box set has, plus 7 bazookas. The mortars are part of the platoon box, and US para command teams are $2.50 a piece.

I assumed that a box set would be 20-30% cheaper then buying everything separately. I'd pay $45-$50 no problem. In fact my FLGS has a British Para company for $45. Must have been on the shelf a while.

Yeah, I understand Your pain - in fact most company/HQ boxes as not that much cost-effective. The only one which is quite good was German Panzergrenadier Company HQ and it was OK only because of that extra Sdkfz which is designed for Panzerschreck team, but which You can use for any purpose. Without that if would have been the same as buying HQ and halftracks separately.

There isn't much of a chance this stuff could spoil sitting on a shelf for too long so the "more you buy the cheaper it is " concept doesn't really apply for these hobby companies. As soon as you begin to look at how much money you've spent in this hobby your in trouble.

Especially if your married.

The best thing going for FoW is it isn't copyrighted so there's some competition among companies to keep prices down. GW can charge what the want, and do.

I respectfully disagree. The trouble begins when Your spouse starts to suspect how much money You are actually spending on stuff.

Next time when your looking at their website, change the currency, it's $65 australion. It's $58 US. Yeah, may not seem like your saving much, but your not having to worry about ordering the IC/2IC bits, which is saving you a huge amount of hassle. I've been waiting 2 months now for Battlefront to ship my dice.

What really stinks is that the orginal one was better.You got three squads with the extras,plus Bull Turner,3 snipers and a PAth finder.
Battlefront front should have left this set alone.

Sixty dollars is not that bad of a price for that set.then you have to get seperate mortars,Bazookas etc.,If you really do not care for that mix some units from other companys.
I just recently added some to my 101 st. Company.I bought Forged in Battle PAras 17.50 and bought a peter pig Bazooka set 5.00. i got ten stands with hq and support weapons, for the other stuff lucky for me i already had.

The bulk discount is fairly standard, it saves them in packaging and they sell more product. Its not hecause it spoils

Why be upset ? If it's not a good price for you ........ don't buy it. Not a smart a$$ reponse here , just to my mind that is the only way to tell companys "THIS IS NOT A GOOD PRICE".

I did, and the flames of war online store still says its $65 USD. I then checked warstore.com and they have it listed as MSRP $65 and discounted to $58.

It's $90 NZD.

You are right, djones520, I think you are looking at the normal US Rifle Company which is $58, the Paratrooper Company is $65.

The discount you get with the FoW boxed sets seems to vary by the set, as the 5 Italian M13/40 tanks I got in the Carri Platoon set cost $50, while it would have cost me $62.50 to get the 5 separately.
