Hi Dakka, I have had this SM list for 1 year now and only play friendly games with it. So far it has done ok, but right now I am searching for ways to make it a bit sharper or competitive. I will not redo the whole list, but I am open to try different upgrades, new tactics and one or two other units:

Captain with relic weapon, digital weapon and jump pack.

10 tact marines with power weapon, plasma gun and miss launcher. x2

5 scouts, 4 with camo cloaks and snipers and 1 with miss launcher.

10 assault marines with power fist and plasma gun.

5 terms with assault cannon.

2 Dreads with twin las and HF. 1 in a drop pod.

6 sternguard with 2 combi meltas in a drop pod with locator beacon.

Whirlwind

Vindicator

I am aware that I have 4 elite choices, but in GW Amsterdam people don't really mind as long as the list is 2000+ points.
Please help.

- Blood ravens 5th company- 2000 pts
- Honour guard of T'au- 1500 pts
- Death korps of Krieg 177th regiment- 1000 pts

Mighty Tzeentch created the Tau. It may not seem likely right now, but it will...
Oh yes, it will...

I like this list but don't have half the models
as far as suggestions go i would go with a predator destructor with lascannon sponsons

Maybe consider building a Vulkanised list.

In general I think you are heading for a drop pod list. If you are drop podding a dread I would go for MM+HF or assault cannon+HF to kill well once it lands.

So more drop pods. IN any case some transportation for the tactical squads.

Librarian or Vulkan would be my suggestions as HQ.

Do you follow any rules over there in Amsterdam?

The first thing I notice about the list is the absence of mobility of your tac squads. This make sit difficult to capture objectives. Also, you are running a solo vindy, meaning that your opponent is probably targetting it as priority one, because if it falls to a lucky shot, the threat is gone. Drop the whirlwind and get a second vindy for some tactical redundancy.

The sternguard look a bit underpowered. Beef up the squad and add some more melta for that drop pod first strike against either a monstrous creature or your opponents "must eliminate" vehicle.

The one dread in the pod has a long range gun. If you are drop poding the dread (not just using the pod in case your opponent uses reserve denial against your sternpod unit) I agree with MFletch. Put an assault cannon on it for more firepower at close range.

What specifically do you find your list lacking? How much terrain do you typically play with? What kind of lists do you face in your FLGS?

Seems like a drop list with a camping scout squad for your own objective.

I'd drop the camo cloaks and get Telion for that scout squad. Makes it much more killy.

If going drop dreads then I'd stick melta rather than lascannons on them.Maybe even an ironclad for one of them.

Tac squad needs its own drop pod as well. That gives 5 in total so 3 drop turn one.

For HQ I prefer a chappy with a pack with assault marines over a captain.

I'd have a chain fist on at least one termie.

HS slots seem a bit of an afterthought for a 2k game.

Thanks a lot guys.
I'll definitely pursue your advice on drop pods for my tac and maybe add another vindy. it'll be hard to do all of these things as I don't have a lot of free space left, but i'll manage to do some.

I do wonder if my army doesn't lack good cc units, because Maybe it would be better if I changed my regular terms for assault terms as I often face (mobile) cc based armies.

Why should I lose the whirlwind though, I always thought that it was quite handy to soften up big Ork or Tyranid hordes as I play these often.

Whirlwinds are a little list tailoring as they really are only good at killing their fair share of orks or 'nids.

Plus thunderfire cannons are better at killing them and are more versatile.
