So.... i like to read pretty much any news source i can and on Digg a few weeks back there was a link to an "alternative" blogg that talked about Radiation from the Fukishima reactor being WORSE than they claimed... possibly leading to the evacuation of Tokyo in the next 2 years...

http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c2#/video/world/2012/05/24/lah-japan-radiation-fears.cnn

Seems more likely to me.

The tinfoil hats are for the "earthquake weapon threat to Japan" theories

There's a guy who lives in Tokyo and set up a Geiger counter in his window several years ago to put the results on the Internet.

I followed his feed religiously for several months while my wife and daughter were in the danger zone.

Never did the count approach anything like as high as the normal background level found in Denver or Edinburgh.

You can assume his counter is a falsified feed that the Japanese government set up some years ago in case of a random nuclear disaster.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

So the first X-Men will be from Japan.
On a serious note, it will be fascinating to see how this new radical distrust of the government plays out in such a traditionally conservative country.

I remember having watched a lot of NHK back then - though the information they had wasn't exactly accurate and you could tell that the government didn't like to come out with the full truth. It wasn't exactly like the Soviets' reaction to Chernobyl, but it was pretty close as far as denial of danger goes. No wonder the people don't trust them anymore as much as they used to.

Either way, as far as I recall Tokyo got lucky because the wind shifted and blew the radiation cloud away onto the open sea. Kind of fail from the authorities to allow radiated cement and food to get shipped around, though.

What is also somewhat dangerous is that a lot of people don't really understand how radiation exposure works. There isn't actually any "safe" level - any bit of radiation is too much as it builds up in your body and has harmfull effects on it. There is already a lot of radiation in nature so we are all exposed to a certain dosage, but the point is that, generally, more radiation makes you more sick. There is no such thing as a level of exposure where it won't affect your body at all.

Radiation does NOT build up in your body. Radiation sources, such as particles of uranium or plutonium that you ingest, will continue to emit radiation while inside of you, but radiation from a point source that you walk past will not somehow stay inside of you and build up.

And there ARE safe levels of radiation. The sun gives off a hell of a lot of radiation, and we've evolved past the point of it being "unsafe." Smoking a cigarette, besides all of the nasty chemicals involved, gives you a dose of radiation that in and of itself won't kill you. The dangers from exposure to radiation only pop up when it's high enough to slow-cook you, ala radiation poisoning, or causes enough damage to your cellular level DNA that your body can't correct past the mutations introduced and you develop all sorts of nasty cancer.

TL : DR - Shorthand for ""Hi, I am a miserable cretin of the Internet that must be spoon-fed pictures and factoids or I will piss myself."

But in Fallout New Vegas the radiation stays in your body until you take radaway...

Alternatively, it could mean that Denver and Edinburgh are hidden doorways for the Molemen to rise and attack the surface dwellers. Best nuke them from orbit just to be sure.

If they surface in Edinburgh then they'll either be deep fried and eaten or put on stage and from there possibly given their own show on BBC 4, depending upon the time of year.

Bear in mind that Scotland has 2 seasons : June and Winter.
