in a fire... AAAAAAAHHH!!$*five@!!

Hey there dakkanaughts! I finally finished painting my troops and, as promised to myself, bought a predator kit.

Background
Spoiler:

I had been planning to buy some FW doors so I could make it a Rhino as needed, but lo and behold GW gave me rhino doors in the pred kit! I can't afford to be buying vehicles all the time, so the plan from the beginning was to magnetize everything so it could be swapped out for a given situation. Also my girlfriend would notice if I bought two tanks.

Magnets
Spoiler:

Round magnets: not optimal. You pretty much have to get them both (a matched pair) in place and 'holding' each other, and then glue them that way. With flat magnets you could just make sure you have north or south pointed the right way, and stick them on individually much easier. But I had round magnets. Lots of them. Bucky Balls (TM) are really strong and pretty small. Do NOT heat up magnets: they lose their magnetism (I was trying to melt a hole in the model). Do NOT glue the magnet in place until you are SURE that its facing the right way, AND that it doesn't interfere with any other magnets already in place, or intended to be placed. Sponson weapons, pods, body, top hatch, and tail gate all sit pretty close together, and its easy to have your sponson weapon jump around backwards because its being pulled by another magnet.

Notations will be under the image they refer to.

This shows pretty much all the options you have for predator weapons and rhino hatches. I want them all. On the same model. Magnets.

One on the top of the rear ramp, with its mate just inside the top of the hatchway. One on either side between the interior and exterior body panels.

Another pair of magnets at the back corners allow the top rhino hatch to be magnetized. The door magnets can be hidden better than most, as decorations look better here than elsewhere.

I managed to center the magnets correctly on both the lascannons and the heavy bolters, so they swivel and can be pointed in any direction and left there.

Annihilator pattern

Destructor pattern

Sponson magnets hidden using the sensor/camera things that are supposed to go there anyway. The weapons have a nice big space inside them for the mate.

Next up: magnetizing the turret! Got bored and had to do some painting. This is about my best set of eyes ever, I don't do many bare heads.

Stay tuned, I'll try to post as I do new and interesting things. I forgot to get a shot of the Razorback idea I had, which essential amounts to letting the sponson weapons magnet to each other and placing them over the hole where the turret goes.

Cheers!

Fixed that shoulder pad

Then I finished dry brushing the interior

Then I painted the other Rhino side door and tried to hide the magnet...

It's supposed to be a red light under a shade. I think I need to watch a few OSL tutorials

And finally I decided the gunner was super boring with his bald head, so I gave him hair, eyebrows... and a MUSTACHE!

Comments and constructive criticism would be appreciated, thanks!

Lol, that gunner is hilarious!
