Well after years of inactivity I started (after prodding by my partner) to play 40k. However the call of some historical wargaming has been calling me. So after a bit of negotiation my partner and I settled on DBM ancients. Ive had a hankering for barbarians so Im going galatian/Celtic. Shes going Parthian. Not the best of mixes for my army buit those are the breaks!

Anybody else here play DbBM/DBMM/DBA?

I will defend DBA etc as I find that Hail Caesar and its stable mate black Powder are enjoyable but ultimately buckets of dice games with a clear throwback to Warhammer - not surprisingly, but hey each to their own.

DBA gives you more variety and less to paint up given the standard number of elements allowed. So you can easily put together five or six armies at little cost in time or money. The small board size helps as well.

Okay the rules are true "Barkerisms" but once you get to grips with them the games flow quickly and it is easy to get in a couple of games a session.

Note version 3 is now in the offing with a couple of tweaks that look to make this even better.

What I like about DBA is the success in creating a game which contains a lot of tactical fun within a pretty limited vessel in terms of playing area, army size and rules complexity. It's a huge leap of design philosophy and was deservedly popular and is still widely played 20 years later..

Anyone who has armies for nearly any Ancients game can use a chunk of them for a DBA army.

To all accounts, DBA is improved by use of the WADBAG explanation of the rules.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yup DBA was a fun game, I havent played it in years, but our last games were a chinese campaign, with about 10 of us as I recall.
