My local GW is cutting its opening hours. Is this a trend across stores?

Hey all,

As per the title it looks like my local GW is now closed all day Monday and Tuesday, and open only half a day on Wednesday. Is this happening with your local GW stores or just mine? I'm not sure if this is a new company-wide policy or a cost cutting measure for my local store. I had a look on the GW website but they still list the old opening hours, so no help there.

Why even have a store, sheesh...

I think the one around here is only closed Mondays, but maybe that's changed- I go to the FLGS instead...

@reds8n Yup, my local is the Tunbridge Wells store. It's a bit of a pain as those are the three days I'm usualy working around the store location.

Little surprised over the Wednesday closing, that's the delivery day for a lot of stores, especially in the great er London/SE area.

My local store is open all week but it is the only store in a 20mile area with no independent stores nearby

I think the nearest to it is Eastbourne, but thats 20 miles-ish and I seem to recall it has funny opening times too.

The GW local to me is closed mon-tues. Open Weds - SatI believe 12pm-930pm, then Sunday 12pm-6pm. This happened about 2 years ago now. As they have scaled most US stores to 1 employee, they also scaled the hours. They also do a mandated lunch, where the store must close for 30 mins. That they cannot get around in certain states in the US where hours employee's have to have a mandated 30 min clock in / out lunch. Its annoying from a gamer perspective, where you have to hold your game for 30 mins, then come back to it, but you get used to it. It seems just as annoying to the employee as well who has to walk around, give people warnings, then close up, then re-open.

Sounds like your local store has dropped down to a single staff member store, these are closed half the time and match similar opening times to what you have put.

I always wondered how these shops maintain enough income to sustain rent given it's closed half the week.
