Hey all. For some time now I've been working on my DIY vanilla marines chapter: The Fossilborne. A nihilist, extinction-worshipping chapter with their own brand of crazy, the Fossilborne are a radical, highly xenophobic, and assault-oriented force that makes extensive use of Vanguard Veteran squads and rapid attack units. Obviously...they're sort of struggling on the gaming table, because theme and concept rarely factor into how good a unit actually turns out to be. I've yet to win a game with them, but here's my modelling and painting log for their progress.

First up here, the squad that started it all, non-jumping vanguard veterans that form Squad Marsh. The Fossilborne may be based around rapid attacks and devastating assault maneuvers, but they are themed around paleontology. They worship the past of ancient Terra, viewing the extinction of the dinosaurs as the first act of the immortal God-Emperor, and maintain a fleet of museum-ships filled with fossils, ancient earth relics, and rare artifacts. Each squad is named after a famous paleontologist, and to fit their theme they are all bedecked with venerable wargear rife with verdigris and lovingly crafted by chapter artificers.

And here is the leader of my main strikeforce: Captain Sammael Ordovician

Interesting concept, you have to add some highlights however.

Well, he doesn't HAVE to, his life doesn't depend on it.
Or does it...

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

Sadly my camera is pretty bad, but there's two sets of edge highlights on the armor, and one on the red plates.
