Heya All;

Ok, how does the wound placement rules work in the following situation?

Unit of 10 Scrab Swarm bases (or a Swarm of Swarms). Basilisk fires and hits a base. Template placed and 5 bases in all are under the template. Basilisk controller rolls 5 dice and wounds on all 5 dice. Now the part that seems to be the problem....

Scarab Swarms are VtB, so therefor they take double wounds from any Template weapon. Basilisk is double toughness for Scarabs, hence they are ID'd. How do you 'instant death' a Scarab twice?

I have always taken it, that a Basilisk deals it's damage/wounds to the unit, then wound allocation is dealt. If this is the case and the above scenario takes place, then by rolling 5 wound dice (one on each base under the template) effectively a basilisk can destroy an entire 10 base squad of Scarabs by only actually hitting half of said squad. (eg:- 5 wound rolls passed, so 5 wounds dealt. Double the initial wounds due to VtB so 10 wounds dealt to squad. Each single base takes a wound which is (to the individual base) an ID wound, so bases are removed regardless of amount of wounds. 10 wounds due to VtB therefore 10 bases removed.

Is this correct?

A new day, a new time zone.

You are correct. Here's how it works out:

1:Roll to hit.
2: Roll to wound.
3: Roll saves (if any).
4: Double unsaved wounds.
5: Allocate wounds.

The trouble seems to come up when people aren't sure at what 'time' Instant Death is applied, so some people will try and argue that you still get to put three wounds onto one base, and THEN, apply Instant Death.
