I'm just curious. Have you seen an increase of players in your area?

About a year ago there was a mass exodus of people away from 40k in my area, with most of them going to FoW or Warmahordes ( me being one of them).

Most of those people who started FoW (probably 5-6 in total) have changed to Warmahordes or stopped coming by now, but a few new players have come to the FoW group in my area independently. There was already a well established FoW community before this time, and I think right now there are about 8-10 regular FoW players including me.

On Dakka FoW seems to be gaining steam, as there is an ever increasing amount of "just starting" threads.

I haven't seen an increase of players in my area as I don't really have a way to go anywhere to play people (if you knew how terrible Calgary transit was you'd understand) That said, I convinced quite a few of my friends to start FoW after our group got fed up with GW price hikes and the like

Just my 2 cents

Yes their is probably more FOW players in my arae now then 40k players.I know the shops in my area have more FOW product than GW.me i am one of the exodus players,i quit 40k three years ago.Started to play Blood bowl fulll time and was wanting to do another wargaming system after 20 years of GW wargaming and i already had some of the rulebooks so i went ahead and started pplaying fow after a three month conviencing time of my other players. They wanted to go back to playing Fantasy but for me luckily GW price on the new product was to expensive for us.We are kinda on a shoestring budget of 50$ a month for gaming goodies,So price does matter.

FoW has always been popular at my club so there's no real change there. Here on Dakka I think 3rd edition and Plastic Soldier have caused FoW interest to step up a gear.

As someone who is just starting getting into FOW I reckon World of Tanks has helped alot with people getting into the game.

Me and a few other started getting into tank models after playing it

I got my new found love of Marders from Playing WoT. It gives a good insight into the benefits of a high gun mount.

I'm tempted to go on and upgrade to a BT-5 since I modelled some for my Spanish Civil War project.

I think the migration has alot to do with your local FOW demographic, if it is strong or healthy in your area you are likely to be intrigued. Thats how I got into it, 5-6 40k Players at my club of 30, play it and I liked the aesthetic and the scale, it's more of a battlegroup engagement rather than a 40k large scale skirmish.

The hook, was how clever and how balanced it was. The little things make a huge difference, like pre-measuring, splitting fire, using their abilites logically, the way platoons competence and morale are critical, the whole "bailing out" and artillery etc. It is beautifully simple, but has nuanced depth with all the different units.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

I wonder how many have started posting on WWPD Flames of War Forums instead of Dakka?
I know I have. That Forum has certainly been gaining lots of new recruits recently.
