I've seen a lot of threads on the decreasing quality of WD lately, and I had an idea. Dakka could have it's own magazine, published as a pdf, with articles from the community. No ads, just good content, with no limit to just GW material. An article on how to use Warjacks could sit next to an OSL masterclass and a Terminator conversion clinic.

What do you guys think?

Died a sad and lonely death. Was making a lot of progress with help from some really dedicated individuals, but I got blindsided by other commitments, and it all just kinda... fell apart.

Still makes me sad.

It would. It needs a couple of people who can spare the time to properly manage it. I had that time, but things change. It'd be great to see it come to life again.

If you got this off the ground, I'd be more than willing to do some battle reports or an article or two a month for you.

What about doing a web based magazine? Have it so people can upload their own articles

I think that was the plan.

Oh right I thought the idea was for a PDF magazine

In about 2 weeks time I get a lot of free time for a while so I'd be happy to contribute. I'm hoping to go and study publishing at the end of the summer and I've already helped to edit a magazine when I was in 6th form (an actual printed one though not a web magazine). I've also been running a blog for almost 8 months now so I'm used to writing content. I'm also more than up for participating in any battle reports that you want to do.

I have zero interest in a PDF magazine unless the content is extremely unique.

This is because I have to use download and navigate the PDF to read it. If I'm going to that effort, I'd prefer to simply navigate through various forums and read articles and posts that pertain to my specific interests.

For example: A PDF may have an article for using warjacks. But I want to specifically read about the best uses of Cryx warjacks with the warcaster Lich Lord Terminus. And if there is an article about that, then perhaps my interests that day run to the best uses of Ptolemy bombers in my Covenant of Antarctica fleet.

The only redeeming features of things like Wargames Illustrated, No Quarter or White Dwarf are that they are printed and look nice, so I can read them on the toilet or in bed before I fall asleep. I get all my hobby related content from internet articles.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

If such a magazine does occur and has Yak and Lego's permission, then I'd be more than happy to create monthly additional rules that can be included (i.e. Proposed rules).
Sadly, I'm basically limited to 40K as the extent of my knowledge, but I'd like to think the rules I produce are suitably good.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

Yeah sure, I'd be up for helping, maybe add some WHFB and LotR articles to the magazine in my spare time (which, due to exams is slightly lacking atm).

I floated a similar idea a while ago, didn't catch anyone. I'd love to help out with spellchecking/crammar checking and anything else.

Am I the only person who finds it funny that you mentioned spell checking and then failed to spell 'grammar' correctly?

I like this idea. I would contribute, I just don't know how...

I've been toying with the idea of starting a 'Students journey through 40k' blog showing how I deal with having little to no spare money each month but still wargamimg (amongst other geeky pastimes ) as well as explaining my painting and modelling projects and also adding a few battle reports.

I'd love to start it as a monthly/every other month column sort of thing if this takes off....
I'm not sure how to format magazines and what not but I could provide the text and pictures to a more knowledgeable source

It is? Cool. I figured it'd been silent so long it must be dead, but I'm glad to hear that work is still progressing. That's something to look forward to.

This is very much correct. The first issue is in fact ready for publishing but apparently Ketara (head editor) has a busy real life at the moment. Preparations have also started for the second issue.

source: I made cover art for the first issue and have started sketching for the second.
