Has anyone though about to try or actually tried the new Citadel Textured paints? I was looking at Stirland Mud and getting ideas that it could be working fine with sealing gaps on FoW Urban Rubble bases or just evening the base level with miniatures on plain plastics. Theoretically it should dry faster than fillers - my only concern is about cost-effectiveness vis-a-vis cheaper fillers and other similar products. Still, I feel like trying this out.

I haven't tried the textured paints, but it could work. You could also just make your own textured paint by adding a bit of sand as well.

If you want to seal gaps though or level bases, Testors contour putty works great, and doesn't take too long to dry. Just leave it overnight and you should be fine.

If it dries overnight, then there is not much difference between that and an ordinary filler, isn't? But thanks for idea -adding sand to cheap acrilic should work!

Well, I suppose not, but I wasn't sure how fast you were going for. I think they have a fast-drying version, but I haven't tried it myself.

Are you trying to find something that will allow you to work on your project again after only a few hours? Or even less?

Sort of - I am trying to do things pretty fast (using hairdryer on primers/basecoats etc to speed things up). Acrilic paint with added sand is supposed to dry pretty fast and gives IMO a better access than filler as You can't add filler with a brush anyway.

I don't think this paint is as much of a filler as you think...it would take A LOT of the citadel texture paint....

Here's how you get enough textured paint for your entire army, another army, and probably enough for some terrain.

First, go to your local arty supply shop. You'll find them within driving distance of any college. Barring that, there's online art supply shops that discount such as artsupplywarehouse.com dickblick.com or utrechtart.com

Get the acrylic texture medium, or something similar to that name like: texture medium acrylic, or pumice medium, etc.

You'll be able to buy a giant bottle of that for way less than the vallejo stuff, of which it is the exact same stuff as the vallejo pumice paste.

Now, mix the appropriate colors into that medium, then apply to your base, let dry, and done.

You can make it even cheaper by buying cheap acrylic paints and mixing the same color (it's easier than it sounds if you look it up).

I've made myself a big jar full of pumice textured color match for vallejo flat earth for all my basing needs. Since the paint is mixed into the texture, I don't need to paint on top of the texture.
