I noticed some of the helmets are White, while others are silver. Is there any significance to this?

The ones with white helmets are usually "specialist" formations, such as Paladins or Purifiers which are unlocked as basic troops through characters such as Draigo(Paladins) and Crowe(Purifiers).

White Helmets are worn by the Purifier brotherhood. Paladins don't wear white helmets. They have their own personal heraldry.
