I've been toying with the idea recently to create a different rpg system but need a good deal of help. I've got a lot of the fluff down in a quasi-renaissance era, but it is likely all over the place. The reason I'm looking to do it, besides that its been quite a bit of fun so far, is as a balance mechanism for some of the stories that I've been writing so that there simply isn't one guy who knows how to do everything as I'm prone to doing, but being a bit more realistic in that. I'm way over my head here as I've a rather limited experience playing pen and paper rpg's
Questions:
Any tips to start out with?
I'd like the dice mechanic to be d6 based, but how do d6 systems compare with d20 systems? Any good d6 systems I should be looking at to understand mechanics?
Using armor as DR instead of AC, good idea or terrible?
Is this a good idea to do for fun or do you think I would be better off incorporating different feats and sets into another system like Pathfinder and just homebrewing it?
Are there any important points I should know about when considering a point/buy base for character creation? Like you get 50 points to start with and you can buy a limited number of feats/skills/magic/items and other such things.
Thanks for any and all help.
