I've been collecting LotR models for a long, long time but never decided to put together a serious army until now.

I have access (via trade) to almost any Harad and Elf models I could need. So I need some help writing a couple solid lists so I can figure out what to get.

A couple stipulations:

I really want the Harad army to include a Mumak. I love the model, already own it, bought years ago, and I'm not going to any tourneys here. I'd like to include one for fun.

The Elf list is for my brother-in-law. He loves the Elves of the Last Alliance, so I'd like to include some of them. Maybe a named character as well.

I could start at 500 or 600 pts., whichever is recommended.

What say you?

Well first of all make a list and post it. Much easyer to help you then, And Mumaks are a waste of points, get Half trolls or more Haradrim cavalry instead,

Well, for the Elves, I was thinking:

Warband 1:

Legolas
-Elven Cloak
4 Elf Warriors w/ Armor, Elven Blade
4 Elf Warriors w/ Armor, Elven Blade and Spear
4 Elf Warriors w/ Armor, Bow

Warband 2:

Elladan and Elrohir
7 Elf Warriors w/ Heavy Armor, Elven Blade
7 Elf Warriors w/ Heavy Armor, Elven Blade, Shield
7 Elf Warriors w/ Heavy Armor, Elf Bow

Leaves me 30+ pts. to play with, if my calculations are correct.

For the Haradrim, I literally have no idea.
Edit: The Mumak is really that awful and worthless? Makes me sad...

your warbands cant be more than 12 moddels including captains/ heros. And yes Mumaks are not worth the points. They are just meh in my opinion. As I stated earlyer, trolls do you more good

Well, I utterly fail then. Hah.

Okay I'll re-tool the list. I think I was reading old forums with the old warbands organization or something. I see you post on here a lot Trond, you seem to know what you're doing... do you run a Harad army? Or would you care to share your list(s)?

Here is a liost I would use. Normaly I play Easterlings so it may not be 100% optimal but you have enough troops to cause havoc. And a rather immense amount of poisioned shots that can be rerolled on a roll of one. If you need some heavy hitters in it I would include some Mahud half trolls. However these are rather pricy so I added Abrkhan merchant guards instead, I hope this help and always a pleasure to help a fellow gamer out

Lords/ Heros

Haradrim King 75
horse
bow

Haradrim Chiefthan 50
bow

Haradrim Chiefthan 50
bow

Haradrim Chiefthan 50
bow

Haradrim chiefthan
spear

Warbands

11 Haradrim warriors 77
Bows

11 haradrim warrirors 102
Spears. Banner

11 haradrim warriors
Spears, all upgraded to Warriors of Abrakhan 88
492

10 Haradrim raiders
5 bows 5 warspears

10 Abrakahan Merchant Guards

Total : 738

Awesome my friend. Looks like a solid list to me. Much obliged. Sad the Mumak is a waste of points, but still looks pretty nasty.

Any take on the Elves, perchance?

Well Mumaks can be fun to field, but they tend to be rather cumbersome I have discoverd after playing against such beasts. If you manage to use it correctly it may work. But I would rather field more units for that chance to outnumber your foes, and drowing them in cheaper units. Sadly I cant help you with the Elves. I dont have the source books for the "good" armies. But post a list and Il provide feedback

I think I can help with Elves. (Isengard, Moria, and Elven armies in my collection)

I see you put Elladan and Ellrohir in your original list? Good. They're awsome. No elf is a slouch, especially the Elven heroes. Gil-Galad is usually worth the points (He can go toe-to-toe (or base-to-base) with just about anybody). I've seen him slay Balrogs, variants of Sauron, and men alike.

I highly recommend maximizing the number of bows in your lists (33% maybe have bows, heroes don't count towards the number of bows in the list).

I don't recommend giving your warriors Elven Blades and Shields (Spear and Shield combos are fine though), as an Elven Blade can't be used as a 2-handed weapon if you've got a shield.

Ents are mighty fearsome in battle, but are mighty expensive as well. I've never tried a Great Eagle though.

A banner in the middle of a blob of warriors can help a LOT. (Highest fight value for warriors + the ability to re-roll a die in each combat to win the fight is pretty awesome!).

Hope that helps! Good Luck!

On that note, any thoughts on Galadriel, Legolas, or Elrond?

Galadriel - Very Static. The fate restoration ability is neat, but costly. I don't recommend her.

Legolas - Great with archers. Great with fighters. Costly, but all Elven heroes are.

Elrond - Same cost as Gil-Galad, half the effectiveness. I don't like running him.

I realised I had forgotten to add a list that allows you to use Mahud tribesmen, ! Sohere is another list

Heros/lords

Mahud king
warspear

Mahud Chiefthan
blowpipe

Mahud Chiefthan
blowpipe

------------------------------------------------------------------

Warbands

11 mahud warriors
Spears

11 half trolls of far harad
Two handed weapon

11 mahud warriors
Blowpipes

Total : 642

If you wanted to expand this list I would recomend taking some Harad raiders instead of Mahud raiders, since they are cheaper poitwise and you can also usea Harad chiefthan for them. Or you could add some heavy hitters like Cataprakts from the Easterlings or a band of Uruks from Isengard

Elrond is 30pts more if you're going for the young version, and 80pts(?) more for the Master of Rivendell version.

I love him fluffwise, but otherwise it's a meh, unless you are crazy about spells (in which case get Cirdan).

- Farseer Tahril

The time for using the knife to remove this cancer is long gone. Bring forth the torch.
- Exarch Quaillindral
The mind of the Farseer is utterly inhuman in its depth and complexity. Without mercy or moral feeling, his consciousness stands upon the edge of spiritual destruction. That he does not fall must be a result of constraints and balances that only an Eldar could understand. To a mere Human it is yet another reminder that we are but children in comparison to that ancient and powerful race.
