As it says in the title. I'm building up an eldar version of a bastion, and want to use comparable eldar weaponry on it. I would like to be fair, and match somewhat with the general eldar theme. That may translate to it being AV12 though if I were stick with the maximum of wraith bone.

Looking at the Imperial bastion it has heavy bolters and the quad gun up top. Not sure what the comparative Eldar weapons would be. Should it be a firestorm set up above. That could match with the same vehicle if it ever hits the open market. However the Imperial weaponry is so much stronger at str 7. Can't even pen a space marine flyer with scatter lasers. I imagine Pulse lasers would be the closest to comparable. Slightly higher strength, but half the shots. Make it a twin linked pulse laser, if the shot or two does hit and pen, the ap 2 makes it more likely to do damage with the +1.

Scatter lasers are more comparable to the heavy bolters I think, slightly higher strength, comparable range, higher rate of fire, but a much lower ap. The next weapon I would compare would be star cannons. Lower rate of fire, although the ap2 makes it a little over the top. Cost wise Shuricannons are about the same as most Imperial Heavy bolters when upgraded on a vehicle. However, it's much less range, and less on the ap for the same cost. I suppose that would be about right for an eldar bastion. Perhaps a pair of twin linked shuricannons that can cover 180 degrees? The range seems rough being only 24". Let me know what you guys think.

Honestly I would just give it the same statline as the Imperial one (thick wraithbone). Find the weapon that as close to the stat of the heavy bolters and just use the bolter stat. Explain any difference in it being a emplaced version of the weapon. Same with the quad gun if you use it.

It really comes down to what your opponents allow. They're just more likely to be receptive if it for all intensive purposes it's just like the Imperial version.

"Because 6th edition is the ruleset that 40k fans deserve, but not the one they need right now... and so we'll argue over minutia... because GW can take it... because faqs and erratas require effort and money... they remain a silent rule maker, a neglectful protector... a Space Marine fanboy..."

For games with opponents you don't know too well, just go with Pie Zuri said above.

However, part of me is very open to a flimsier, more powerful bastion. AV12 with a TL Pulse Laser (skyfire, of course) and a bunch of shuri cannons sounds pretty good to me. Just add 25pts due to bonus in S for all the weapons, and the classic custom unit tax.

If you play with folks that are down, the "rule of cool" will tend to take precedence. Make it cool enough and you'll have better luck.

Back in 5th we had some home brew bastion rules that involved modeling a bastion with the weapons of a vehicle of our codex, giving it's front armor on all the side and giving in the ability to hold twelve troops and have up twelve fireports on it. You just paid the normal cost of the vehicle and, tada you have a immobilized version of it that could hold troops.

Since all of us had firm guidlines on what they could have, it all seemed pretty fair.
