thought I'd share this:

I have been wanting to do this project since I was 15 years old and I have finally been able to get it started.

This will most likely take me about 12 months to complete. I am in NO RUSH to get it done as I'll be doing alot of research before I start painting I also want to get all of the flags in for each regiment before painting starts. And I still need to add more stuff to the collection like:

Dismounted Confederate troops
Limbers for both Confederate and Union Artillery
Cassion with riders for both Confederate and Union Artillery
GS wagon and rider for both Confederate and Union Armies.

Here are some early pics:

The swag of metal:

210 bases [40mm x 20mm]:

Here are some updated pics of my ACW project:

V Corps 1st Division:

Rifled Cannon Brigade:

Iron Brigade:

Buford's Cavalry:

Here are the Napoleon Cannons for the Union Army:

While I was waiting for the Cannons to dry I made these up:

here is the first of the Confederate Army:

I have the Confederate Cavalry almost done and a Brigade of Confederate Smoothbore Cannons that is nearing the end of the painting stage and will soon follow the Cavalry into dry brushing and inking.

Once they are done I am going to start the next Confederate Brigade but take my time and show how I have done it. Mordheimer asked me to do the Tutorial [on the Deathsquad forum board]

As I paint up the units I'll update this thread when I do the DS one.

Cheers

Awesome, awesome, awesome!

I'll be watching this with interest, as I'm still looking for a decent set of ACW rules.

@infinite_array: thank you very much for your comments. I loved playing Warmaster when I was younger and I stumbled onto Blitzkrieg Commander which is basically Warmaster set in WWII. I also have the Future War Commander for my Ork Epic minis, So when I found the Rules for American Civil WarMaster I jumped at the chance to get into it.

I wanted to do the Battle of Gettysburg ever since I was young. This project will take ages for me to do but it will be well worth the time and effort to do.

@Optio: All of the miniatures are from Adler Miniatures in the U.K http://home.clara.net/adlermin/ACW/ACW.htm

Here is a pic of what I still have to paint up:

I Currently have 6 stands of Smoothbore Cannons and a 4 stand regiment of Infantry troops of the Confederate on the painting table. Each of the sections on the left and right are regiments/brigades for either the Union [those on the right and the top centre section] and the Confederate [all of those on the left]

The two middle bottom sections are made up of the Commanders and Officers both mounted and dismounted.

here is a pic of my Confederate Cavalry. Mounted and Dismounted versions. I downloaded some flags and I like them not to expensive and I didn't have to pay postage and wait for them. plus I can print off as many as I like.

next lot up is a Brigade of Smoothbore Confederate Cannons.

I added some flags to my previously painted Regiments/Brigades:Here is an example of the Union:

Here is an example of the Confederate:

Those Adler miniatures are lovely, they have a terrific amount of detail.

@Makarov I have no idea!!

I am playing this game [ACWmaster] as it can be played SOLO.

As can Blitzkrieg Commander II, Future War Commander, all of these games can and are played by Solo Gamers [Norman no mates]
Where I am its a small town with NO gaming community.

Closes clubs are in:
Hamilton 45minutes drive
Tauranga 1 hour & 30 minutes drive
Auckland 2 hours drive
Wellington 6-7 hours drive

So all of my choices with regards to games are done on one thing does it have a solo aspect to it? Hence why I invested in the Zombicide board game it was 1-6 players. [and it was about surviving Zombie attacks]
as for ACW it was my choice though it would be great if my Brother inlaw got into it as well. But we play BKC II against each other well we will once he gets his Brits and Germans painted up.

Due to shift work it is hard to catch up with my mates from Hamilton as I work 4 days on 4 days off roster [each shift is 2 days and 2 nights] with 12 hour shifts.
this makes it hard to catch up as most of my mates work Monday to Friday.

I am trying to get some new recruits into my small community namely my Daughter who is 6 and a Great Tutatis player, and my Son who is 4 and loves Robots, boats and space ships.

I bought Super Dungeon explore as a family game for us all to play they really enjoyed killing my Terminators in a game of Space Hulk. but for some reason cried when I killed there Terminators "go figure"

I really got into the ACW era after watching the Gettysburg movie [I watched it when it came out on VHS and we needed two tapes to watch the whole movie] whether that movie was accurate or not I have no idea but it got me interested in learning about another countries history and what the men and boys of that era went through. Where brothers, uncles, and cousins were fighting each other over their rights to continue slavery, and an idea about how we should treat each other and not have slavery. Very moving subject for those from the States.

I used to be a gamer but when we moved from Hamilton to Te Aroha [for work] I left alot of my gaming mates behind and entered a into a gaming VOID. it has only been in the last few years I have been able to get any games in and catch up with fellow gamers.

@marielle
The Adler Miniatures can be on the big side. Try and compare them against companies Like Heroic and Ros and you will see they are like giants in comparison. I can not mix my H&R Germans with my Adler Germans they would look freakish together. Thats why it didn't bother me getting Adler they are a good size to paint, reasonably priced, and aren't as fragile as other companies are. I had minimal breakage of the guns, one or tow flag poles were broken out of over a 1,000 individual minis sent in my order. So over all not bad at all.

I painted up a load of them years ago for a commission job and they were easily as detailed as 15mm.

Funny you mention H&R as I am currently working on an Eastern Front project using their figures, which oddly is a project I too dreamed of when I was 15 - of course then my plans were to have as few infantry as possible and as many Tigers and Joseph Stalins as possible. A syndrome familiar today with FoW .

Still, I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of your armies.

Nifty. Keep us posted. I'm doing something similar, but with 1/72nd scale figures, as they're cheap and cheerful. I may not use ACWarmaster, but my options are open at this point.
