Played my first game of FoW finally the other day!

We played a few things wrong of course.

One thing that didnt come up that I was re reading after the game though was this:

If a unit has its IC taken out. It cannot move or assault but can stay in place and fire.

However if the Armies IC or 2iC moves to within range of this leaderless platoon they can assign a new IC.

Is this new IC simply the same weapons as they had when they were promoted or does it revert into the old IC unit... IE: SMG, Panzerfaust or perhaps Panzerschrek?

You replace the team with the command team that was killed (also, Platoon commanders are not ICs). I am pretty sure it is assumed they pick up the dead command teams weapons. Tanks, on the other hand, don't change (for obvious reasons).

I came across this in one of my games so thanks for the answers.

In addition (and this happened in the same game) if the platoon commander is killed in an assault can that platoon launch a counter assault?

He has the weapons of what ever is appointed. So if a rifle team is killed, and replaced by an MG team that MG team stays as is.

That's actually incorrect. On page 105 of the 3rd edition mini rulebook under "Appointing New Commanders", it states that if the newly appointed platoon command team is a tank team, the team stays the same, but if it's an infantry or a gun team, it's replaced either with the original platoon command team (if the original was an infantry team) or with a spare Command Rifle team.
