So I want to play a paratrooper (would gravtrooper be the correct word?) themed Elysian army from IA 8. And the new rules really make this hard since only half can be in reserve and you pay a points premium for the ability to deep strike. So my proposed rule change is based on the Deamonic Assault rules from the Deamons Codex.
Airborne Assault:
No model in a detachment chosen from IA 8: Elysian Army List with the ability to deep strike [Fliers follow the normal rules found in the Warhammer 40000 Rulebook] is ever placed on the battlefield during deployment. Instead all of the units from this detachment always start in reserve. You must declare if any model with the Independent Character special rule are on their own, counting as a separate unit in reserve, or if they are joining a unit, in which case they and their unit are a single unit in reserve. The enemy deploys as normal, as do any units in your army not belonging to the detachment chosen from IA8, or those chosen from IA8 that lack the Deep Strike USR.
At the beginning of your first turn, divide the detachment chosen from IA8 into two groups that must include, as much as possible, the same number of units. (Note: Platoons, for the purpose of Airborne Assault only, count as a single unit. However you must have equal numbers of Platoons in both groups if possible.) Then you must nominate one of the two groups and roll a d6. On a 3-6 that unit arrive first turn. On a 1-2 the other unit arrive first time.
The units in the Group that have been chosen to make the Airborne Assault arrive on your first turn, using the deep strike rules. The remaining units are held in reserve and their arrival is rolled for as normal. When a unit becomes available it enters play using the Deep Strike Rules.
So what do you think?
