The Lakers just managed to trade for Dwight Howard while keeping Pau Gasol.
Their starting lineup will probably be:
C Dwight Howard
PF Pau Gasol
SF Metta World Peace, better known as Ron Artest
SG Kobe Bryant
PG Steve Nash
Kobe is one of the greatest players to ever play the game. He, Howard, and Nash are all probably first ballot Hall of Famers. Gasol might make it in as well with another 4-5 years at high level. MWP/Ron Artest also might make it in as well thanks primarily to his defensive skills. Howard, MWP, and Bryant are excellent defenders and Gasol is solid as well. The weakest link is Nash, who isn't completely terrible on defense despite popular belief that he couldn't stay in front of a Betty White crossover. Offensively the starters are all solid or excellent except MWP who has never been a solid shooter or scorer.
If they manage to mesh, I don't see anyone beating them in a 7 game series. I'm actually excited for this season now.

As an Orlando Magic fan...I think I am ready to just quit following the NBA. It's kind of sad how a player can just screw over a franchise like Shaq, Lebron and now Howard has done.
This is twice for the magic, and both times to L.A.

Yeah and then Tracy McGrady got hurt and didn't do anything for y'all. It sucks to be a Magic fan.

NBA Players, Still the greatest collection of talent ever. The Dream Team that is.
As for the Lakers we'll see what happens. Nash has been slowing down a bit but it's a solid starting line-up. How deep is their bench?

Starting line up may be good or even great but it wouldn't match the 85 Lakers
G: Magic Johnson, Byron Scott
G/F: Michael Cooper
F: A.C. Green, Jamal Worthy
C: Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Some decent bench - Kurt Rambis, Maurice Lucas, Mitch Kupchak
PG: Edge 85
SG: Edge 13
SF: Edge 85
PF: Edge 85
C: At best a push but I would lean to 85
Bench: 85 by far.

PG: Magic over Nash by a good margin. Magic was in his prime, Nash is still a top 3 point guard offensively and aging well.
SG: Not even close Bryant >> M. Cooper
F: MWP is even with AC Green
F: Pau Gasol > Worthy, slight margin
C: Howard > Jabbar. Howard is still getting better, Jabbar was long past his prime.
Bench: 85 Lakers
I think 85 vs 2013 Lakers comes down to bench play and if 2013 can contain Magic effectively.

this is seriously debatable
first off, there was really no other serious basketball league in the world. It was NBA All Stars vs absolute nobodies
there is a reason a bunch of almost retired men and a few others made it look like they created the game. I remember thinking, oh god, everyone is gonna hate the US. We basically stacked the deck.

The 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls were probably the best team of all time. As a former Utah Jazz fan and perennial Knicks fan, that in and of itself is a hard pill to swallow. Let us take a look at what makes them better than anyone else: Record- Their record stands as an all time great achievement. At 72-10, no other team has matched this. Bench- A deep bench that never seemed exhausted, Toni Kukoc led the reserves as the 6th Man of the Year and third in scoring behind Jordan and Pippen. The team also had the most accurate 3 point shooter in NBA history (Steve Kerr), and James Edwards, who had won prior championships for the Detroit Pistons. All Stars- This is a team that boasts three of the most recognized stars in the form of Scottie Pippen, Micheal Jordan, and Dennis Rodman. Dynasty- If not for Jordan's retirement, this could of been a team with more than just six championships over the course of a decade. That this was their best season shouldn't belittle the staying power of the core players who made the team good in other years.

You know what..I never thought that I could actually root for the Heat. But if it comes down to Miami vs L.A.....it'll be hard to not pull for the Lebron's.
