General Alexander Vlastaan of the Imperial 23rd Prandian Imperial army sat in his hover chair as he watched his commrades and adjudents throw insults and outrageous ideas at eachother from accross the command table in the war room of the 23rds command bunker. "You pittyful dog, you have no idea how launch an offensive! you would rather commit the lives of thousands of good guardsmen instead of a few worthless conscripts!" shouted Major Humbolt from the 19th Prandian regiment. "Listen to me you pompous fool, if we launch a spear-head into the enemy territories with the armoured regiments and support them with our elite Guardsmen regiments, instead of the in experienced conscripts we have available we may actualy gain some damn ground in this war!" Retorted Major Stanhope, the armoured fist commander. "By the emporers teeth! You call yourelves Imperial officers but your arguing like school girls, now shut up and liston to your commanding officer!" Shouted Vlastaan over the rable. "Now the offensive will commence with a wave assault that will last an entire day to probe at the defences of the rebels, Then the artillary will bombard the rebels positions for a full hour will the conscripts follow up immediatly with another wave attack. Then the armoured fist regiments will launch there assault with the regular Infantry regiments following right behind them, hopefully we can swarm them with enough numbers so and completely overcome the rebels. Now stand to, the 23rd moves out tomorrow." Vlastaan ordered to his men, a fire grew in his belly a familiar fire just he always got just before a major offensive, it wasnt fear nor courage but instead, exitement.
Trooper Kovo from the 93rd Prandian infantry regiment 6th company was running with his platoon just behind a leman russ squadren. The giant tanks battle cannons roared again and again as the bombarded the enemies positions a few hundred meters in the distance, all the while flying along at full speed. They kicked up hundreds of specks of mud which doused the infantry platoons behind them. Kovo had a massive stream of mud accross his face, or was it blood? He couldnt tell anymore. he could bearly even think anymore they had been going non stop for the past 72 hours, no one slept last night in the trenches, the death screams of thousands of conscripts all through the night made sure of that. Kovos Company had fared better while charging accross the 1.3 km stretch of no mans land to the Rebel troopers trench works, they only had about 200m to go. The rebel forces had been lobbing shells into The Imperial guardsmen as soon as the went over the wall, the shells came from traitor griffen heavy mortars and were no match for the hulls of the Leman Russ's but they did a good enough job at blasting guardsmen apart. The 93rd was part of the 23rd Imperial army, and the 23rd was tacked with knocking the traitor guardsmens headquators and high command out of the war for Cynchare. The only problem was that the Headquaters was right in the middle of the hive city, the the hive city was protected by legions of traitor forces, and the quickest way to the city was straight through the traitor guards heavily fortified trench works.
No one knows why the Cynchare Imperial guard regiments and Civillians rebelled against imperial authority. The planetary govenorrequested aid the quell an upriseing 6 years ago, when the Prandian armies arrived, the Govenor and loyalist forces were already dead and the planet was in dire chaos. The Imperial guard high command wished a quick and to this war in order to hope to avoid a demonic incursion, but its now been raging for 5 years. The 23rd is the only army to have advanced so far north to Cychare's capitol Hive. Some say it was due to Ol' general Vlastaan and his military genius, he just says its down to plain old luck, a roll of the dice as he would put it.
Kovo was sprinting as fast as he could through the slick mud, mortar shells exploded all around him and men were torn to shreds, but he had been lucky this far. He knew he must be close to the trenches because the Prandian Leman russ Line-Breaker squad in front of them did what they do best, gunned it right for the trench works, extended their dozer blades and fired every weapon they had at the trenches. The lead russ hit the trench works at full speed and went straight over the wall firing its batt;e cannon at defenceless traitors in the trench, then the others hit the trench in the same fashion. A classical Prandian tactic that had won them many battles, but it all depended on the infantry and how fast they could get there to support the tanks. "faster you dogs! your commardes will be slaughtered if you do not haul your damned asses!" shouted the comissar attached attached to Kovo's company just before he was blown to bits by a heavy mortar shell. "advance pace!" shouted Kovo's Platoon commander Lieutannant Christoph, and the well drilled Guardsmen stopped sprinting and fell into two ordered ranks and advanced at a controlled paced in one ordered unit. "Raise weapons!" Christoph barked again, and the surviving guardsmen made a gun line 20 men long. Cristoph couldnt get the next order out because he was shot in the throat by a las gun. The Seargeant major, Kabanov, took up the role and Shouted "Volly!" and as one Kovo's Platoon fired a volly into the traitors clambering over the might Leman Russ tanks and those trying to tank cover behind the trench. Soon the rest of the company, the regiment followed suit and a speeding wall of las bolts raced into the enemy lines and killed many traitors. They fired several more vollies then Kabanov Screamed "Fix Bayonets!" and the guardsmen did exactly as they were ordred, as they were trained to do, then through Kovo's vox bead in his ear he heard the order come from his Company Commander, "Charge!".
Kovo Cleared the barb wired and then followed the massive tread marks made by a Leman russ the jumped down into the trench, he was forced to duck as the Leman russ fired again and obliterated a Hell hound in the distance behind the trench. Cyncharian Guardsmen were clambering all over the Behemoth, They were grey trenchcoats with black flak armour and a spiked helmat, a contrast to the Prandians grey cadian issue armour and uniform. One traitor immediatly turned to face Kovo and he impaled him with the bayonet on his las gun, as Kovo pulled his Bayonet out of the dead troopers body and was struck on the back of the head by the butt of a Cyncharian las gun, trooper Ramov or 'big red' as the men called him fired a few shots into the traitor at point blank and he crumpled onto the ground. 'Aint gonna kill no rebels down there kovo" red siad sarcasticly as he helped Kovo up. Kovo just simply nodded his head and continued through the trench works. The leman russ battle tanks finally reversed out of the trench and sat on the lip, poring fire into the traitors on the other side of the trench, it was up to the 93rd now.
Kovo and Ramov joined up with the rest of their platoon a little bit down the trench line, they had taken few casualties, not suprising since Prandians trained specifically for trench warfare in all forms. "alright lads the 93rd has secured the trench but we have just got word that rebel armour and infantry are en route to this position to attempt to recclaim it, so we need to man these positions and hold them at all costs, Prandians dont retreat!" Kabanov ordered. Kovo manned a heavy bolter nest with the rest of his squad, His sergeat, Takarov, had been killed in the charge but suprisingly that was the only casualty his squad had taken. Ramov also manned the heavy bolter and acted as his loader.as Kovo traced the Bolter back and forth searching for tarkets in the mix of fog and wecked vehicle chassis, searching for targets. Then suddenly form somewhere down the line they heard the dreaded words "Contact!", a second later a missile streaked over head and oblitereated one of the Leman Russ's precherd on the trench lip. the hundreds of traitor guardsmen poured into the open ground, shouting blasphemas war cries. "Fire!" Kabanov ordered, and Kovo didnt need to hear it twice, he pulled the trigger of the heavy bolter and it spat furious death in the direction of the traitors. They were torn apart by the streaking fire of the heavy bolter, mens torso's were ripped open and limbs were severed, but it was short lived as the heavy bolter went dry. "Load! RED! load!" Red ripped the box magazine out and red the belt through the chamber, locked the box in place, slamed the chamber shut, then cocked the massive weapon, Kovo resumed fire and fell many more traitors as they despeartely attempted to reach the trench now occupied by the 93rd.
It was going well for the Prandians, they Traitors couldnt make any ground in the open and were cut down. But in the foggy distance Kovo noticed massive figures rumbling forwards. Massive shells smashed into the sand bags protecting the guardsmen, though a few penetrated and that was enough to send a few dozen gaurdsmen into the emperors light. The traitor leman Russ's advanced towards the trenches almost unhindered, they outnumbered the Prandians Tanks, hell they almost outnumbered the Prandians. Kovo fired even as another shell flew over his head and wrecked another Prandian tank, it seemed hopeless and his heart sank, to come this far just to die in some traitors trench for nothing. Then in the distanched a high pitched wine could be made out, it was getting closer and closer, then the engine noises of an air craft could be heard, the low rumbling of a, a thunderblot fighter. An entire squadren came in low over head and dropped tons of explosives on the enemy armour, incinerating thousands of guardsmen and tanks. A resounding cheer came from the surviving guardsmen in the trenches, the thunderbolts made another pass and oblitereated any form of Cyncharian resitance. Kovo let out a sigh of relief and turned to Big red "well buddy, we live to see another day"
Back in the war room it was hand shakes all round, the command staff were quite pleased with themselves and the taking of the rebels positions. Vlastaan wasnt going to give that trench up and he had to call in a lot of favours just to get that one Thunderbolt squadren diverted, luckily they came when they did, otherwise Vlastaan may well be on the front lines right now. The 23rd now had prime position to strike at the Capitol, after they were reinforced of course, but that was what Vlastaan was worried about, could they hold out that long. His heart skipped a beat every time he read the report that just came from his adjudent. He interrupted the celebrations to deliver the, horrid news. "Gentlemen, it would seem this war just got a whole lot worse" he had the attention of everyman in the room, a chill ran up his spine as he read the report. "Chaos Daemons have been sighted and confirmed to be within the capitol hive, and its surrounding areas". He looked around the room and saw everyones shocked and horriefied expressions, it was then that he know it would take some Emperor given miriacle to win this war.
