Elusive Dryad

Well, I have ten days alone with two cats that hate each other. There are rumours abound of the Chaos legions marching again. And I have a whole big backlog of models to paint, of projects half started, of thoughts and ideas that have taken little traction past the initial purchase.

So here begins a story yet untold, a story of marines and daemons marching shoulder to shoulder while deafening screams pierce their wake. It is a story of perfection and addiction, of beauty and mutation, underlined throughout by the slow, creeping degradation of the mind that haunts the mortal followers of the Dark Prince of Pleasure...

I'll begin with 5 simple bolter marines, constructed from the FW kits, in the process of firing at the enemy. There is 1 MkIV, 2 MkV and 2 MkVI marines. Heads, bolters and backpacks remain unattached for ease of painting. They need another good scrub with soap before priming, but that's resin. The armour will be predominantly in an off white, with dark grey and silver details, the helmets will be purple and the bases some kind of concrete gravel with mud and plantlife added later.

These marines will represent a chapter recently turned to chaos. They have not spent enough time in the warp to see their armour mutate, but their minds are already far gone. I'm not quite certain about the rest of the squad yet, they will probably have a pair of plasma guns and two more bolter marines. The sergeant, or aspiring champion, will be constructed after the new chaos codex is released, I've got a few ideas but I'll wait to see the options. I *might* just reward my self with for painting these five with a little FW order - a Deimos rhino for a ride and maybe the apothecaries for sgt conversion fodder... But first I must paint them.

Enjoy!

Cheers man.

Minor update - the marines are now primed!.. This really may not sound like a particularly significant step for most people, but this is the first painting/modelling I've done for practically a year now. Hey, it's been a strange year. I'm not the greatest self-motivator when it comes to painting, just buying the models is so much easier. Still, 10 days to paint 5 marines - should be doable. Should...

...but only if the kitten doesn't get stuck 10 foot up in a tree again, like she did this afternoon.

Well, the painting didn't go brilliantly. I hadn't picked up a brush in twelve months and painting white over a black undercoat is slightly harder than I expected. Did it fine with red for my BAs, but apparently not white.

So I went back to the modelling and here's a sergeant.

He's still mostly held together by blue tack, but I'm quite pleased with his pose. And his awesome power weapon. Needs some tidy-up around his arm pits and should be primed by dusk! Progress!

Gonna change the final colour scheme, make them all slightly darker. Probably gonna be a purple, never painted purple before...
