Here is the first part of the first tutorial that deals with How To Paint Deathwing Armour;

Looks beautiful but that chipping technique is best for larger items.
The amount of chipping you have there(which is the right amount IMO) it better done with a super detail brush.
Gives you more control.
Get rust colored testors enamel and paint streaks coming from the chips.
Then use a flat brush damp with odorless thinner to blend and streak downward like runoff.

Hi Eisenhorn;

I'll have to disagree with you that this chipping technique is better used on larger vehicles. The Space Marine models generally have large flat surfaces perfect for this type of realistic chipping. You can only fool the eye into thinking the armour paint is chipped with a super detail brush (if it's the same technique I am thinking of), but this technique the armour is actually chipped.

You can also achieve incredibly detailed chips with the edge of a knife (like the ones on the miniature's face). As long as you are careful and you think about where to place the chips you can achieve a pretty nice effect.

Cheers for the testor's tip, it's something i'll certainly try.

I am not saying it does not work,it does that is one of my goto techniques for armor.
You get the best winter camo that way.
Paint the tank and decal like normal
Cover decals with silly putty
Lightly dust the tank with white paint,not too thick or it won't chip
Go to town with the water removal concentrate on the edges.

It is just going to be alot of work for all your troops to have a few chips here and there(once again the proper amout IMO)
I find it easier to hit it randomly with the super detail and then highlight the chips.

Testors is the cheapo route be sure to thin it slightly.
The real stuff is AK interactive it is already premixed.
They have way more than rust too,I swear by the stuff.
They also sell Chipping fluid which is probally decanted aquanet lol.
But supposedly it does the same as hairspray but with more consistant results.
You need to airbrush it though.

I like that you are using the Fine Scale Model techniques,do yourself a favor check these sites out(Missing Lynx and Armorama) they are Fine Scale sites,the guys who do real world armor.
You have no idea what you will pick up,also keep in mind all the FW tank desingers are all Big Time FSM's
