Anyone else think that the eternal war missions are both uninteresting and unbalanced? It seems to me that whoever has the first turn, and by extension the most objectives in their deployment zone, usually wins and the best the player with the second turn can hope to achieve is a draw. Do people actually uses these missions in tournaments? Why does anyone find playing the same six games over and over fun in any way? How is it my friends don't believe in codex creep when they look at tournament results and only see winners from the last few codex releases?
I am so board and agitated that I just want to paint models to a high standard show them off to my friends on game night and refuse to ever play. I only have one friend in a gaming group of five or so members that has any interest in anything other than WAAC tournament style play, I am highly invested monetarily in the game but I spent most of my money on units that I think look cool. I love to build and paint, but tournament play is not for me.
I love the building a narrative sections of the book and all of the optional rules and creative possiblites of recreating- battles, creating your own scenarios and missions, campaigns and and anything that is NOT eternal war but my gaming group insists "People don't play that way. People play for competition." and "It's a table top stratagie game built for balance." even though to me it is obvious that to me this is not the case.
Finding a new gaming group is not an option so I am left with two options. Play with the one player that has interest in other things besides eternal snore, aka fight over the 1996 penny with the number 4 drawn on it aka set up 24" away and shoot the piss out of each other and hope you kill more of them than they kill of you aka capture the relic, no wait just hope they go for the relic and then surround them and shoot the piss out of them for their stupidity if not then set up 24" away and shoot the piss out of the opposing player aka squat on objectives and kill anyone that comes near you because you have more objectives at the start of the game, or just give up the game and paint models not restricting myself to units in armies that I can field.

Stikk bommas are special among ork society for one reason - They know when you pull the pin out of a stikk bomb you throw the bomb not the pin!

Holy wall of text, batman.
No, I don't think they are uninteresting. First Blood balances week MSU out. Objectives require mobility. The missions are much more varied than 6th edition and secondary objectives give you a way to push away from draws.
Obviously it isn't the most balanced game on the planet.
If your gaming group doesn't meet your needs maybe think about a different group?

Why is finding a new gaming group not an option? I agree that the best thing to do if you are not enjoying your current gaming group is to try to find a new one. Why play with them if you are not enjoying the games? Maybe you and the other player who likes casual games could try to find another group together?

A new group is not an option because of proximity. I am not going to drive an hour to play a game then drive back an hour. I would if we were doing an all day thing but as adults it is hard to find other full time job having players that can get together on the same day

Well, I know it isn't really an option for you, but that's really the problem. It isn't the missions or the game, it is that your gaming group doesn't play the same game you do.
Try advertising locally to see if there are other people in your area with more hobby based desires.

Where should I advertise? I have posted on here previously with no success and I just don't know where else I can advertise.

Depends on where you are located. At your gaming store they will probably have a bulletin board, you can ask game store owners and friends, you can post to Find a Game on dakka or a more local forum, etc.
if your store/club is very competitive, then chances are you are not the only hobby gamer that is alienated. You just need to find them.
Where are you located? You might want to go to the Find a Game forum and post a new thread there (something you haven't done yet that I have seen).

In a small town called brevard NC about an hour from the nearest local game store. and that game store caries almost no GW and they don't even play weekly games. the one time that I did go there it was the same old WAAC tourny style games and I am not willing to drive an hour to play that kind of game. perhaps I will send the store an e-mail and see if they know of anyone who may be interested in a different kind of game

I'm in a similar boat as you. The only gaming store within 1.5 hours is 20 minutes away, but only ever does Magic the Gathering.
