I was bored today so I fought a battle between myself. I'll tell you how it went.

NECRONS:
Imotekh The Stormlord
5 Immortals
10 Warriors
10 Warriors

CHAOS:
Chaos Lord with Mark of Khorne and Daemon Weapon
5 Khorne Berzerkers with Skull Champion and Power Weapon
5 CSM with Plasma Gun
5 CSM with Plasma Gun

Scenario:
I set up 3 objectives. Whoever claimed the most by the end of the game would win.

Deployment:
Imotekh got the Outflank trait and therefore stayed in reserve with a bunch of Warriors. The Immortals guarded the home objective. The other Warriors stayed on one side and was going to rush towards the central objective.

The Khorne Berzerkers and the Lord in their Rhino was deployed right in front of the Immortals. One CSM squad was deployed with the home objective whilst the other one would fight the unit of 10 Necrons at the central objective.

Turn 1:
The Necrons won initiative but went second - they'd let the CSM come to them.

The Rhino went Flat Out towards the Immortals. One CSM squad advanced towards the central objective.

The Necron Warriors on the board advanced towards the central objective as well. The Immortals inflicted 2 glancing hits on the Rhino reducing its HP to 1.

Turn 2:
The CSM moved again towards the central objective. The KB disembarked from the Rhino and used the Rhino to shield themselves from the Necron attacks. The CSM shoot at the advancing Warriors and kill 1. The Rhino shoots at the Warriors as well and also kills one.

On comes Imotekh and his unit of Warriors on the right table edge. This means that the KB are in their line of sight! The other band of Warriors advance towards the objective. The Immortals fail to do any damage to the Rhino. Imotekh and friends also fail to do any damage to the KB (unlucky!). The Warriors kill 1 Marine.

Turn 3:
The Rhino tank shocks the Necron warriors advancing towards the central objective. They pass their LD test. The KB move towards the Immortals and need only a 3 on the 2D6 to charge them. The CSM claim the objective in the middle of the board. They fail to kill anyone. Same with the Rhino. The KB charge the Immortals, killing 3. The Immortals fail to kill a KB. Finally the Lord gets 8 attacks and annihilates the unit! Goodbye Immortals. They consolidate towards Imotekh's unit.

The Necrons respond by moving their Necron Warriors away from the central objective. Imotekh and friends move away from the menacing KB unit. The Necrons fail to kill anyone this round.

Turn 4:
The Rhino blocks the retreat of the Necron Warriors at the objective. The CSM move menacingly towards the Necron warriors. The KB move towards Imotekh's unit. A round of pistol fire from the KB results in all misses. The CSM at the hill shoot at Imotekh's unit and kills one. Finally the CSM charge the Necron warriors around the objective and the KB charge Imotekh's unit. The CSM end up killing 3 Necrons whilst being wiped out by the Necrons, who regain one of those dead thanks to Reanimation Protocols. All the KB hit the Warriors and only leave Imotekh standing. For fun he challenges the Lord. Imotekh dies.

The remaining Necron unit moves to claim the centre objective. They kill 3 KB.

Turn 5:
Basically the Necrons get tabled.

What I learnt from the game:
1) I need to play against someone else.
2) I need to learn Imotekh's rules.
3) 6th Edition seems more fun than 5th in my eyes.

Battle Barge Impossible Fortress

Kinda funny, I have done that once as well but it may have involved a lot of alcohol and larger armies. I fell asleep somewhere near the 2nd turn.

Plasma guns are definitely the way to go for CSMs. If you can take them, you should be.

If immortals are troops, take a 20man unit of warriors next time

Yeah, good idea. The unit of 10 died mighty quickly.
