Hello. The other day I picked up half a 2 player starter set. I got legion. I have lots of exp playing cryx and gators and a small bit of skorne so I thought legion would be a decent next choice. but today I took my legion to a small game and I realized... even though I have played against plenty of legion before I have no idea how to run this box. I want to run a shredder swarm backed up with some shephards, spell martyrs, and forsaken. And the heavy infantry would be my gators. I was planning on running 8 shredders, 2 stingers, and a posse, fill either rest of the points with beast support or a carnivean.

Can anyone tell me how to run this or how a competent legion list is supposed to be played? (when I played before I just caster kill turn 2 with an incorporeal posse)

Well the thing with shredders is you dont want shepards and forsaken, thats less shredders you will be rolling with and they can only un-fury one of them each.

In reality most shredders lists use epic thag, though i can see the knight guy in the domination book working too, you need to strategically cause them to frenzy in enemy lines and clear the focus, dont try and leash down 10+ shredders because your advantage with them is frontloading a million dice worth of damage then letting them frenzy for a turn, if you try and moderate that fury load down you'll just end up getting your face beaten in.

Grundz pretty well covered that.

The real thing to realize about bajillion shredder lists is that they can't take down anything heavy. Light beasts/jacks, units, solos all die to them...but even ten of them won't take down a Menoth/Khador heavy barring really lucky rolls. You will still need a Scythean, Angelius, or Carnivean to do the heavy lifting. My preference is the Angel if all you need it for is killing heavies. Casting the Shredder's animus on it makes it pretty tough.

Also, Lylyth is not really the right caster for bajillion shredder lists. The more I think about it, the better I realize she is, but eThags does it better. Rhyas would probably do it pretty well too. Honestly, with both Lylyth and Rhyas you would want Shepherds just because they can let you force them out of their tiny, tiny control areas.

Well, I don't know if my ramblings have helped (I'm really tired), but I hope they have.

I ran this with pLylyth with alot of success. If all you want is caster kills and aren't worried about getting control points but just contesting it works wonderfully.

pLylyth
Carnivean
Seraph
6 Shredders
Min Raptors
Annyssa

I never cared about the Shredders for fury or even treated them as beasts. I could pull off them if I needed to but they were basically solos who can go rabid and buy attacks. Shredders can most certainly hunt heavy armor with this list also once you drop parasite. Most of the time, the game was set up by the Seraph getting into a turn 1 position, turn 2 was Lylyth feating, dropping witch mark and blood lure and parasite on the caster with a hit and letting the Seraph finish it. If needed the Carnivean could assault as well. The raptors / Annyssa are to take out support and keep the flankers honest.

Well, I realize I was rambling yesterday. Parasite and Blood Lure are what enable her to utilize mass Shredders ok. I still dispute their ability to take down heavies, though.

With regular Rabid, you're at 3d6 - 9 on an average heavy (sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less).

With parasited/lured Rabid, you're at 3d6 - 6, with 2 attacks. Obviously that's a lot better. Three Shredders (and it's hard to get many more than that), however, still only do 24 points of damage on average. That cripples a jack, but doesn't kill him. It will kill an average 'beast, but it's still only one jack/beast.

The first scenario will only do 3 points of damage on the same heavy (unless you can walk up to him).

Anyways, before I ramble too much again, my point is; pLylyth lets you use shredders to kill or cripple ONE heavy a turn. The amount of damage they do on any given turn is nowhere near that with any other caster. If you don't worry about all that Fury running around (and it's best not to; it'll give you nightmares if you let it), then pLylyth probably gets the best use out of 4-5 Shredders. 8-10 (which is what I consider to be a Shredder-heavy list) is just wasted points.

I know this sounds like I am saying something completely different than yesterday, but in reality it's just more coherent and thought out

But you've only committed 6 points to take down a heavy beast in that scenario. Yeah, that's a win.

Except you've also committed your caster to the effort...I'm not saying it's not still a win, but it's not just the Shredders that you have to account for

I redact my shepard comment as i forgot they extend your force range.

pLylyth does have the tools to make our shredders shine. I'm fond of shooting the target I want then parasite it/blood lure. Go rabid and charge for free, 2 attacks each, good times.

I'm also fond of the Carni with her as its a real heavy hitter and her feat makes his spray a possible assassination tool.

Seraph's are also nice to extend threat with the Carni since it lacks reach and with parasite up, the strafe attack is actually decent, especially under feat turn.

Striders+UA are good times for accurate model removal as well and Raptors are always a fan favorite.

The Naga is also a very strong consideration due to the animus as well as the Succubus to help spread the animus around and free upkeep should you need it.

She's geared to run a strong mixed arms game as she brings extra hitting power with parasite and free charges, accurate hitting at range and in melee with the feat and an very solid assassination threat.

Be wary about getting too close to the action as she is a squishy caster with very low fury.
