I've posted about this before here, but that was when this forum was dedicated to a single set of historical rules... So I figured I would post again, since I've done some recent updates on the old supplements as well as released a new one!

Kings of War is a great set of rules from Mantic Games. Written by none other than Alessio Cavatore of Games Workshop rule-writing fame! But instead of cloning Warhammer, he made a game with the same level of tactical complexity, but without all the fiddly movement, combat, and list-building rules! Being great for fantasy, I imagined they would be equally great for historical gaming, so I set to work writing supplements.

To use the free supplements below, you must have a copy of the free Kings of War Rules from Mantic Games; with that rule set and the below supplements you're ready for some historical gaming.


KoWHAC Medieval Mayhem
Covers Europe and near Asia between 1100 CE to 1500 CE, released September 2012.



KoWHAC - The Viking Age
Covers Europe and near Asia between 750 CE - 1100 CE


KoWHAC - Rome's Rise and Fall
Covers the Rise and Fall of Rome in Europe and near Asia from about 300 BCE - 500 CE


KoWHAC - Hoplon, Pike & Arrow
Covers Europe and near Asia from 600 CE - 200 CE

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
