I've hardly played a single game with the Start Kit Khador force, and soon after picked up the card deck to look the army over a bit. Irusk looks awesome, and I love the concept of capitalizing on Winter Guard, so here's the 25 point list I'm toying around with expanding into. So yeah, I'm in need of critique since I have no idea if this is a really stupid list or not.

Khador Army List
Supreme Kommandant Irusk (Epic) - +5
Kovnik Joe - 2
Winter Guard officer and Standard – 2
Winter Guard Infantry (10) – 6
Winter Guard Infantry Rocketeer x2 – 2
Winter Guard Mortar Crew x2 – 6
Widowmakers – 4
Kodiak - 8
Army Total: 25 Points

I've been tempted to swap eIrusk out for eSkorsha, but I'm on the fence. Irusk makes my guys Tough, and can make my mortars shoot straight. Well, one of them anyways (On that note 2 Mortars might be a bit much. And then there's the quest of mortars vs field guns. Maybe take one of each and boost the Kodiak into that 25ARM 9 point mech? ) Martial Discipline is also nice considering how much of a swamp I can make for myself with so many models on the field (Particularly using the WG as a meat-shield for the Devastator. With Irusk it can just tramp past my WG to deal with enemy mechs.) , and the feat is pretty nice, as well as the Bond buff for the Kodiak. There's also the question of WG vs. WG Rifles, though I don't actually have a WG rifle card so I can't really do a comparison myself. ._.

So yeah, what say you veteran Warmachine gamers?

You are going overkill in what typically focuses on killing infantry at the point value.
At 25 points, a lot of competitive players bring 1 large, maybe 2 small units of infantry.

WG death star: WG+UA+Joe+rockets.
Mortars x2
Widowmakers

Its overkill. If you really like bodies, by all means, however unlucky scatters and your be rolling on your own WG infantry unit. Also with that much infantry running ahead, the Widowmakers may have some problems bringing those guns to bear.

I'd think of either running Mortars OR Widowmakers. Not both. Consider ditching the Mortars, adding in a Widowmaker Marksman who gives the unit the ability to shoot, and move 2 inches. From there you have 4 points left? Pick up Yuri the Axe and the Wardog.

That way Irusk will have some defense buffs in combat, and Yuri the Axe if you have never used him is just awesome when combo'd with Irusk.

Ah, I see your point. I'm not totally sold on Yuri (I don't think he's the guy for me is all, nothin' against him), but buffing the Widowmakers does sound like a good idea. Here's what I've got reworked:

eIrusk - +5 (eScorsha instead?)
WG Officer/Standard - 2
10 WGI - 6
x2 WGI Rockets - 2 (x3 if eScorsha)
Kovnik Joe - 2
Wardog - 1
Widowmakers - 4
Widowmaker Marksman - 2
Beast 09 - 11
Total: 25

I'm not entirely set on Beasty because I'm missing out on his star move by using eIrusk and not Scorsha (I'm totally open to switching if that's a smarter move, mind). I'm certainly on-board with the wardog; especially with Irusk prancing around towards the front with only so many easily stampeded bodies inbetween him and the enemy it's a necessity I'm chiding myself for overlooking.

But yeah, would eScorsha be a better pick? I'm worried about relying on Joe to keep my guys Tough because it's a one-round thing: If I lose the roll-off and go second that means it's pretty much nullified, right?

I would keep one mortar team and drop the widowmakers. That is just so you a good target for fire for effect which is an amazing spell btw.

This gives you 7 points to play with. Beast is by far one of the best jacks even without sorscha. I would include either beast or spriggan, you need something that can deal with a heavy arm target which is what the original list sorely lacks. EIrusk doesnt really buff damage for his soldiers either so you need a couple units that hit hard without buffs. Great bears come to mind. If you drop a rocketeer, that gives you the points to get the bears OR you could get a combination of manhunters, yuri, and war dog. Manhunters almost hit as hard as the bears do but they have stealth and are more difficult to deal with for most lists. It would make for a good theme too as manhunters are generally regarded as khador's scouts and wilderness guides.

71 pts khador - 6 war casters
41 pts merc highborn - 3 warcasters

Honestly I'd prefer the snipers over the mortars. With so many rockets and the troops themselves I feel pretty confident about handling infantry, and while the mortar does pack an obscene amount of punch the snipers, for me, are a lot more entertaining to use (And will complete the other 25 point list I have ) and being able to knock out any slot of their choosing can help Beasty out since he'll more than likely always be outnumbered by enemy 'jacks.

But yeah, I do see your point about having something that can punch without having to rely on buffs so much. I'll digest your help a little more and see what I can/can't implement, though I certainly feel I'll end up with Yuri in it one way or another.

I think your initial 25 pt list is ok, but with 1 change.

Khador Army List
Supreme Kommandant Irusk (Epic) - +5
Kovnik Joe - 2
Winter Guard officer and Standard – 2
Winter Guard Infantry (10) – 6
Winter Guard Infantry Rocketeer x3 – 3
Winter Guard Mortar Crew – 3
Widowmakers – 4
Spriggan - 10
Army Total: 25 Points

This gives you a more useful jack, Bulldoze is great, targeting flare has awesome situations, 12/21 jacks are incredibly hard to kill in a zone, AND on a charge with the War Lance can essentially take out any single model.

I also feel the Deathstar getting +3 str and battle lust, these guys are now pow 11 weaponmasters with combined melee attack, well they can take out pretty much any heavy target and no one ever expect winterguard to charge something.

Overall I feel a list with that slight warjack change I made is incredibly powerful vs almost any list not full of pure AoE spam. One possible change I would consider is to remove the widowmakers and a rocketeer to add the great bears for 5 pts, this will solve all heavy armor issues, the deathstar solves all high defense and enemy infantry issues, it just becomes a dominating list for the points level, something I feel khador can do with a single list quite easily at 25/35. Its really multi list formats or 50 pts where khador's deathstar can be countered easier.

As I lack the Spriggan card, I've sub'd the Devestator given its ridiculous amount of survivability (Combined with eIrusk making it immune from being knocked down? Aww yeah.). I'm not totally sold on the Bears, but I squeezed them in just to see how the list would work. Anyhow, here's what I got right at this moment:

eIrusk - +5
WGI - 6
WG OS - 2
WG Rockets x2 - 2
Kovnik Joe - 2
Bears of Gallowswood - 5
Widowmakers - 4
Devestator - 9

Again, not totally sold on the Gallows but I actually don't really know what they do. XD I'll give them a better review, and if I don't like 'em I'll switch them out for the Widowmaker solo and a mortar.

EDIT: Did my homework on the Gallows. Extra D6 of damage combined with picking what slot I dish the goods out to? Hell to the friggin' yeah I'm taking these guys.

The list seems solid, the greatbears are used as your 2nd line, your counterpunch to their punch at your Winterguard, they can decimate warjacks or beasts with easy, let lone with battlelust.
