Like the title says, I love the idea of ww2 snipers, so I want to include a team or 2 in my list. From a non-tournoment standpoint (think friendly games/campaigns). How well do they work in the game?

Pretty much that
Against armor its pointless, against attacking infantry it is golden IMHO

They arn't all that great. The automatic pinning and 4+ firepower is nice, but they are hampered by their 16" range and the fact they go away whenever someone comes near them.
If they had 32", or even 24", range they would be pretty good as they could do what they do without getting in the way.
I face them with my FJ all the time and what they tend to do is show up, maybe pin a unit, if lucky they might get a kill, and then I hose them with HMGs and they go away. Its not that hard to kill 1 dug in GtG infantry stand. especially if you have nothing else to shoot at.

They can be worth the points but you have to use them with finesse. You need to know when to use them and on what. I wouldn't recommend them unless you are interested in practicing with them a lot.

My favorite tactic is to pin the enemy with the Sniper then hit them with some artillery or Mortars.

Out of curiosity, why? The artillery or mortars will pin them anyway if they hit.

Depends on the game, opponents and points level. They are too pricey for any games under 1500 points. Again armor they are pretty useless, but against infantry forces they can be really useful, especially if you can get some shots in on units you want to assault to pin them before the assault takes place and limit their defensive fire abilities when there is no way to effectively place an artillery template before an assault. You have to place them well, though, as their range is kind of short and if any enemy units get to close they are forced to leave, so they definitely require a bit of finesse to get full benefit from them.
As a sacrificial unit they can be used to stall an enemy's advance with good position and pinning of units early in a game to stymie an attacking infantry forces ability to get across the table enmasse and quickly.
