I've been out of 40k for a few years now, playing a lot of Warmachine/Hordes and a bit of Malifaux, but the 40k bug bit me again. I started with a Dark Angels successor back in the early days of 3rd Edition, and quickly branched off into Chaos Marines, which have been my go to army in 40k for over 13 years now. The release of the new Chaos Codex got me interested again, and I think it's a major improvement over the last book. I've also been missing customizing my army, as that is something that is sorely missing in WM/H and Malifaux. So I've dusted off my combined Iron Warriors, Death Guard and World Eaters armies with Deamon allies. A large chunk of the army is painted, but needs minor repairs and touch ups to get into tabletop form.

Here's my starting point:

This is what is ready for play, just in need of repairs and paint. I also have boxes of unfinished deamons, Renegade Guard and other assorted bits and pieces to add in. I'll be running the Iron Warriors with allied Guard for even more fire support, and allied Deamons for the World Eaters and Death Guard from their patron gods. I also have a few Slaaneshi Deamons, but no Noise Marines so adding in some of them down the road may occur as well.

I started with a squad of Iron Warriors to get me back into the groove:

Just a quick touch up and rebasing of older models so nothing too special. The right shoulder pad is red as they've got the Mark of Khorne since they have bolt pistols and close combat weapons. From here I'll be making some Plague Zombies for the Death Guard and then working on the Marines themselves. This is going to be a long project as there is a lot to do with this army but it feels good to be more creative with my minis again!
